Cushion side down for us and the knee rolls against the outside walls as they seem to fit beautifully into the area between the slats and the wall :)

If you ask hubby he hasn't a clue as has never tried to make the bed up

If I'm making it up as a bed, with sheets etc, then 'cushion' side goes down, as the sheets will protect the back of the cushions, which do not appear as hard wearing.

I'f I'm being lazy and just throwing a sleeping bag on the bed, then it will be cushion side up, so the harder wearing fabric is presented.

The cushions are swapped around so that the knee rolls are at the outer ends, in either case.

Mine are the same each side so we use cushion side up but cushion side down makes sense if they are shaped.

On our Emerald we kept the upholstery side up, but put the knee rolls to the wall.

Over them we put a thin duvet (Ikea) in cover as a bottom "sheet", then pillows and duvet as normal.

We used to use sleeping bags, but washing large ones is a problem.

we experimented with our cushions, we started off with them set out as they show in the magazines, i.e seat cushions to the head and feet and both back rests in the middle.

But both of us found we was waking up with terrible backache, so we then tried them with the back rests to the head and feet and the seat cushions side by side with the knee rolls to the outside slept much more comfortably after that.

Richie
