We have been to a caravan club site where the Union Jack is raised in the morning and lowered at night!!!! We were not CC members at the time but wanted to give a CC site a fair chance. Quite frankly we didn't feel welcome as our pitch was clearly marked as a 'non member' pitch with white tape!! Really strict rules with 'officials' monitoring your every movement. A bit like an Army camp!
We have not done a rally before, and probably not likely to, like others on this site, we like the relative peace and quiet with the hello's and chat's done occasionally at the water tap.
On a lighter note, because both of us are ex forces we always salute when we see the Caravan Club signs!!!
we went to one on halloween in 2004 ,it was in a diffrent region , i thought they were snotty as we didnt have a new up to date van , we was asked if we were buying a new one ver winter , that upset me , we were not made welcome . very clickey . unlike our preivous experance with ccc rallies
not again

No offence meant Susa..just me being on the defensive.
'STILL intrigued what you all do, sit around in the mud chatting about caravans? Although, rumour and the Met Office have it that the weather may be turning warm again, so you may not need your wellingtons after all.'
Well what do we do? We get on our bikes and ride around the beautiful parkland that the rallies our held in and discover the local area. Have long walks.Look around the stalls etc. to see what is on offer and to get new ideas and see if there are any bargains.Watch the various events that are held and maybe join in if its not pouring down.Soak up the atmosphere.Chat to various people(not about caravans...why should we?)Enjoy the shows(if it's not freezing and draughty...it can be)All in all just enjoy a different environment. As you say..not everybody's cup of tea...we just occasionally like something different. We wouldn't normally go as often but with being washed out the last two we thought maybe third time lucky and Holkham Hall is a beautiful setting.!! As you say warmer weather is forecast.Brilliant...no wellies! We are going on to enjoy another quieter part of Norfolk afterwards.Away for two weeks in all.
Glad to see you are still posting. This hopefully means you have retained your enthusiasm for the vanning and life is treating you and your other half a little better.
I have often wondered how you both were coping with the caravan and if you both were managing to overcome the health difficulties. Your posting means you are a little better. So glad
All my very best to you both.

Lots of different experiences of cc rallies on this thread and if you were to go on one you'd probably find it different again. We've been on a few since we got our caravan last June and for us it's been great - we have a 6 year old son and he has built up a small network of young friends he'll see regularly - and that is priceless. As for the national this weekend, it will be our first too. We probably won't go to the evening shows with our little 'un and we don't sit around talking caravans either! Imagine going to the pub with a few friends - the conversation is much the same, full of variety and laughter.
But whether we'd attend so many if we didn't have a child I don't know. Maybe it's a case of lots of variety - quiet CL sites (like this weekend, we were in a really secluded part of a CL by ourselves), a few rallies and the odd big one thrown in.
And has been said already - you don't know until you try and if it's for you great, it not then at least you gave it a try and you can move on.
Well hello there twinny! nice to hear from you........hope you are in good spirits!
ermm as for my enthusiasm I'me afraid it still remains the same, having just arived back on Friday from a lovely idilic site in Wales, we took a chance on a "none adult only site" and when we arrived on sunday most had left and by sunday evening only 4 couples remained, then by tues just another couple and ourselves it was like having a private site lol.only 23 vans so was nice n peacfull EXCEPT!! for the peacock!! oh my gosh..but after having eyed us up n down after the first evening he seemed to strut off into the top of the site and all was well..lol, as for health problems they unfortunatley are still there and seem to rear their head up more so when away form home..not sure if its the air quality etc or maybe sleeping in a van, we leave the vents/windows open as much as we can to circulate air, but then lol hubby is cold! It's just a case of getting on with it and trying to make the best of situation, I do all of the work which I really don't mind but need a bit of a hand with the awning etc ..and you know what men are like some things are just "a man thing" lol... hope your enjoying your van and all is well...take care.
