Seems odd that you cannot allow waste/grey water to enter a stream or ditch and yet canal boats are allowed to discharge this water directly into the canal!
There was some debate about stopping them doing this but I am certain they are still allowed to.
A very grey area and one that appears to contradict itself.

From reading the Forums pertaining to Canal Boats in general and the discharging of Grey Water in partiucular, they do indeed, at the moment, discharge their grey water directly into the canals.
However a European Body appears to be in the process of bringing in a ruling that New Boats be fitted with a Grey Waste Tank and this tank would be emptied only at specific points IE a marina.

As I said earlier, it would really be up to the landowner as to what and where you could put your grey water, or if wild camping, dump it discreetly but filtered.

So the answer is: Ask the site owner.

Don't know that I would to be honest.  During a trip this year our hose pipe accidently disconnected at some point during the night.  We didn't notice it for a while but when we were leaving the next day the amount of food and grease located undervan was disgusting!  We don't wash anything down the sink intentionally, however it was maybe dirty washing up water etc.. We found particals of food, including rice and pasta on the ground, the orange scum from pasta sauce and dried soap.  We hosed and washed the pitch before we left, so no I wouldn't ever empty grey waste directly on the ground as there will be sediment..
