Hi, Im hitting the cornwall road on Friday night from Derby.  Just working out if to do it at 7pm through to Pentewan Sands and park up when I get there in there holding area and grab a few hours sleep, or hit road at 3ish and hope to be down past Bristol by 7am hitting camp site for mid morning.

Dilema Dilema Dilema, have 3 or 4 hours sleep then drive or set off early evening drive thrugh with various stop's for fresh air and coffee!

I will have to kids aged 6 and 8 so at moment plumping for 7ish kick off, they will not fall to sleep till midnight so hopefully will settle straight back in caravan when i dock for a few hours or risk waking them at 2ish and hoping they go back to sleep, but they didnt last year grrrrrrr

We're heading for Pentewan as well Swift. As long as you're through this area by 7am you should be OK. We're leaving here just after 5am (I hope) & I hope to run straight through.

Have a good trip & enjoy the holiday. Are you on the front row??

BB.

My mate & his family are heading for the holding field friday night, I think we'll stick with the early AM kick off from here, we're only 10 minutes ff J14 M5 so we've a good head start on you & our friends who are from Oxford so I can understand why you need to sleep for a while. Trouble with us is the stuff in the van is always in the way, we'd need pickfords to help us get through to the beds.

If you have kids of 6 & 8, I suggest a visit to springfields pony centre, they'll love it if they like animals. You'll find a leaflet in reception for the place. Our kids are 13 up to 19 so they've grown through the place now but, it's great for younger kids.

Here is some info:

Michealwood services ? Lorries and Caravans together
Sedgemoor services : Caravan area after main services but before petrol station, ground is rough and puddles if wet and always leave someone with van for security.

Hope this helps

We recently stopped overnight at a Caravan Club CL about 5 mins drive from the M5/M4 junction. Cost £8 for the night. Admittedly arriving in the early hours might not suit, but you can always check with the CL site owners in advance as they may not mind. Each to their own but a good overnight stop, without worrying about safety on a service station and the outside noise of other users, would be far preferable and you'd be able to continue on your journey more refreshed.

We have done Cornwall from Cheshire twice this year. We aim for Michaelwood at about 1.00am or if I am feeling ok Taunton Deane for about 2.00am. Giving us a few hours head down before leaving at 6.00/7.00 am. Both stops you are in with the trucks but to be honest on Friday night/Saturday morning there are 10 fold more caravans. Although busy we have managed to get a spec at both stops no problem, and not yet been charged (happy to pay, I may add).

Just a note if you are going to arrive early at Pentewan Sands, as a couple of posters above were doing. I stand to be corrected but as far as I am aware there is no holding area. There is pre-reception parking for around 2 to 3 outfits, but no more. We went for May bank holiday week and requested to use the holding area for a couple of hours for late departure. We were told they do not have a holding area and we could not park up in the residents car park. If we wanted to keep the pitch till late afternoon we would have to pay an extra night charge. Dont take this as a negative comment on the park itself. We had a wonderful week at a excellent clean park.

However if you are heading to Carlyon Bay they have a huge early arrival area and you can also park up for late departure an no extra charge. Also an excellent park.
