MartyM,

Quite how a "readiness to hurl insults" corelates with a "salesmans contemp for his customers" I find difficult to understand. And quite frankly, I find your inane arguments and claims pretty pathetic, so I won't be wasting any more of my time replying to your nonsense.

Finally, I'd like to point out that my original post was simply a friendly pointer for NI members, and as Suffolk is in England I don't quite understand why you're even commenting on this post! Unless of course, you're one of those sad folk who gets a buzz out of having recorded 1000s of posts in a forum!

ooo000ooo,

It'll be interesting to see what happens at Hagans, with the demise of Avondale.

Is there a Swift dealer north of Belfast? Just wondering!

Just a little bit of cautionary advice for NI members!

I called into Hagans at Ballyclare a week ago, and in the process of looking around, noticed a couple in an Argente 650-6 with a salesman. I later passed them when they were outside the van, and heard the salesman saying, "if you're telling me you've got a 3 litre engine then it'll tow this without a problem".

As I was driving away, the group had moved to an outfit parked outside the gates, with a BMW 330D saloon. Being a bit suspicious of the salesman's words, I've checked and the 650-6 has an MTPLM of 1700kgs, against the 330D with a maximum KW of 1625kgs.

So.................... if you're shopping around at Hagans, do your own research and don't depend on their advice!!

You're assuming that the potential owners will load the caravan right up to it's MTPLM limit??

MTPLM is a limit not a target. By loading correctly and safely they could stay legal and safe.

I think it is about time there is a compulsory written declaration industry wide, to state either,

a) All responsibility is passed to the buyer to ensure his outfit is safe, or,

b) The dealer takes responsibility for informing the customer his outfit is safe.

This is needed to protect both buyer and dealer.

IMO of course.

Hagans caravan sales are only a small part of the Hagans empire. They sell motorhomes , have a fairly good accessories shop and own quite a few holiday parks both here in N.Ireland and the mainland. I  am one of the unfortunate ones who have just bought a new Avondale from them. Unfortunate in that the warranty issue is still uncertain. We love the van and I found them to be helpful so far in that I got an awning with the van and on our first trip I noticed a small hole in the material. They changed it no questions asked  and without even inspecting it.

Understand this then---

Your op actually contains libelous statements against a named company based on snippets of overheard conversation that was none of your buisness.According to kerbweights the 330d has a max towing weight of 1800kg btw so the car can legally tow the caravan even if it might be unwise, although an experienced caravanner may disagree. Fact was the salesman was telling the truth when your op suggested he was lying.

Your tirade of abuse posted anonymously from behind a keyboard is just water off a ducks back to me but you can think yourself lucky that Hagan's solicitors cant find you after your untrue & damaging remarks againt them.

It may be worth pointing out to the forum moderaters tho, that the laws of libel do apply to internet forums & they may see fit to remove this thread.

Maybe they were going to site the caravan on a seasonal site and not tow it with the BMW.  Did the salesperson specifically ask if they were going to use the BMW to tow the caravan?  I towed my twin axle with my S80 and did not have a problem therefore I would assume the BMW is more than capable.

Again it is up to the buyer to make sure that he has the right vehicle for the type of caravan he is going to tow.  As for Fit for the purpose" there is no argument there as the caravan would be fit for the purpose of habitation for which it was designed and is perfectly capable of being towed.

Is this a private arguement or can anyone join in?

Yet another post has descended into farce. For goodness sake boys, get a grip!
