There's nothing in it and it's down to your personal preference.

I have owned both Lunar and Swift models (currently Swift) and both have their good and bad points. Would I buy another Swift - yes. Would I buy another Lunar - yes.

It ultimately boils down to what you perceive to be the most important factor to you.

I must say that the Lunar was more reliable that the Swift, but I think the Swift has slightly (only slightly) better build quality. The Swift has had numerous warranty work carried out on it and it's only <6 months old. The Lunar had no warranty work but it did seem a bit flimsy. But then I'm comparing a single axle Lunar5 against a twin axle Swift Charisma.

Good luck with either.

I have never owned a Lunar van so difficult to pass any comments about them but have owned two Swift group vans over the past 11 years and been very happy with them so the first place I would look would be Swift.

We are on our second van from the Swift group and no problems with either. Not owned a Lunar but we go for build quality as well as looks so for that reason we wouldn't buy a Lunar, or a Bailey (with apologies to all owners). I would look at Elddis as well, we owned a 1992 which was fine. Of course Lunar and Bailey are lighter if that's a consideration.

     Are they both at the same dealer? for me this makes the world of difference.

I would go for the dealer you feel most confident in because if you have a problem it can be the difference between joy and misery.

If it's with the same dealer if pushed I would go for the Swift, when we chose it was between a Bailey and a Swift and the Bailey won and not dissapointed so far.

Our previous van was a 2002 Lunar 640, bought at 2 years old from Chichester Caravans Winchester.  Our current van is Abbey Spectrum 540 bought new in 2006 from Davan.  Apart from the layout, I have found little difference in either van.  The Lunar didnt leak, nor does our now 2 year old Abbey.  I think the upholstery in the Lunar is more substantial than the Abbey - seemed to have a deeper pile to the fabric.  The Abbey has better quality carpets, but that might have something to do with them being removable. 

What I did find was that there was a mile wide difference in the treatment we got from the dealers we bought from. Chichester couldnt be more helpful, before - during - and after the sale.  Davan reduced us to the "Spectrum" buyers once we'd paid the deposit amd completely forgot who we were once they'd had the balance.  If you read previous postings there's a whole saga of the problems we had from them afterwards, and of the piddling amount of help that Swift Group gave us too, including unresolved safety issues with the fridge/freezer.

My advice is dont worry about the different caravans you can buy, worry more about the aftersales service you get once you've bought.

We have had both vans, we liked the lunar because of it light weight, we did not have any problems with it, we now have a Bessacar (swift) and like the quality of the van, but it is heavy.

The Eldiss we had some time ago was good, the bailey we had many problems with.

I think you pays uour money and take a chance, we would from choice though have another Bessacar.
