I am convert too from Trailer tent to folding camper to caravan. had a Trailer Tent for 8yrs then had 2 Folding camper for 3yrs, since 2004 I am on my second caravan already.

We did almost 20 years in tt's then folding campers but had a disasterous summer 5 years ago when our well looked after Conway could take no more rain. We packed up in the mud and rain and had to go and change in the loos before driving away. (yes we were wearing waterproofs but still ended up pretty soaked) In fairness to the canvas, everything in the trailer was bone dry when we opened it up at home even though the water was pouring off the folded kit. Now on our 5th season with a caravan and have no regrets. Longer camping season, warmth, etc, etc, but most of all no worries about wet canvas when we get home. Still a camper at heart so have a tent or two for an occassional fair weather trip!

funny i have just sold my pathfinder and pick up a caravan tomorrow.got tired of packing it away wet and have better things to do with my time than getting it back out to dry.

I love all kinds of camping and have a tent a campervan and a 5 berth caravan but love my caravan the best I think!!

If you want to potter around England a caravan is great. I have both and would never advocate a caravan in europe and for longer distances. Each to their own and depends on what you are doing. Enjoy whatever you use!

It was the folding up wet and drying out that did it for me too.

we sold are 2001 conway countryman which we loved when it was all setup, but like others got fed up with having to setup again when we got home if it was wet. we sold countryman and loads of extras for 2.3k, and brought a 2001 abi adventurer for the same price with loads of extras, so basically a straight swop. we are really pleased we changed

Our caravan is great for England and Europe (well only France so far!). I does rain in France - the year before we got our caravan we used our tent as a stopover and yes, it rained in the morning when we packed it away for the second leg of our journey. Also when you have driven for many hours it is so much quicker and easier to set up the caravan than it is to set up the tent and the necessary cooking equpment! We much prefer our caravan in the UK and abroad.
