Which asks the question - did firms like Avondale give up too quick when calling in the receivers?? Perhaps if they knew the market would be healthy they could have survived... just a thought.
Judging by the news on the radio this morning Caravan sales are at their highest for 5years? will we have enough Caravan sites? will our roads take all these new Vans will our web site grow bigger!! yippee more new friends, to many questions!! need refreshment back later, all the best to everone.
Woggle
Is our website partly responsible for the larger uptake in camping and informed decisions made by newbies?
All you folks looking to buy a caravan, don't over look the older vans, many are still in great condition and some better than newer models! Plenty of 25+ year old vans out there going for a bargain, I know of six currently for sale of which 4 are Thomsons, Solid, reliable and made of REAL wood!
Biased!!!! ME!!!

Good question Sean, although I think perhaps it was a case of not being able to wait any longer with mounting debts etc. Perhaps there is still time to a reprieve of some sort! (-:
as i said before imho caravan holidays will rocket due to the euro.the sale of second hand vans will be the main sales as people are being more careful with there money.
hi papa pip how are you mate?
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Would be interested to know other peoples current experience when looking to purchase second hand caravan privately. We are on the hunt for 5 berth touring carvan. Over past few weeks it seems everytime we see what looks like a lovely caravan, as soon as we phone up it is sold. We have seen at least 6 good caravans be sold within a couple of days of being advertised on websites. Are caravans selling privately quicker than ever or is it just the ones we are looking at?
There were a couple of vans being sold on our Seasonal site, Andrewshayes near Axminster. One was a Sterling and I think, only think, cos I cant really remember, the other one might have been a Bailey. The Sterling looked immaculate.

Still plodding along, waiting on the next step in my health care. Some days better than others, all better than some other folks in worse conditions, as a friend of mine always replies, " As well as can be expected under the present circumstances!" Hope you and yours are OK!
Thats the beauty of our Web site the "Words of Great Wisdom" from the Revered one who's name is spoken with great reverence in all Caravan circles "PapaPip"
LOL Woggle, hopefully I can still liveup to that great accolade, words of wisdom are few and far apart.
Doing as well as I can with all the drugs rattling around inside me! lol
Still trying to keep on top of all things Thomson Caravan related.
In connection with this thread i can report an increase in the number of hits on the advice sections of my site and the number of enquiries has been steadily increasing, especially those on damp repair. A problem that is no longer as scary as the dealers would have us think! Due to the Fixed it members of this great site!

Just about to put our TT for sale and join the dark side ....
We sold our Jamet Louisianne TT and joined the ranks of the shed draggers. I do miss sleeping under canvas but I don't think I could give up my van. Everyone asks if I worry about damp and I actually worry about damp far less with a caravan (just going to monitor it regularly to make sure it never becomes a problem!). I used to constantly worry about the finding damp each time I unfolded the TT despite knowing that I'd left it for ages to dry out before packing it away!
Don't be shy at asking to check any prospective caravan purchase with a damp meter. If the seller says no then run a mile. There are so many ruthless sellers who want the expense of damp repairs to be the next person's headache. Equally, don't worry if you buy a caravan with damp - just make sure it's reflected in the price. If you look for the Wizard/Caradad on here and the Fix It Club you'll see it's not such a daunting task to fix. Good luck!
Many thanks The Woofsfor your advice,, many thanks
We are the same allways looking for the start of damp on our TT quite a worry after the lack of summer last year....
------------- Does a full 140g bar of Dairy Milk count as part of my 5 a day??
Cabanon Neptune DL TT.. Wet Wet Wet Wet Wet Wet.
Carlyon bay,St Austell 25th July - 3rd August
We are one of the many few looking to purchase a second hand caravan.
Both working full-time we find it difficult to get out and about in the week to view the vans before they sell.
We managed to go and look at what was described as an immaculate van advertised on Ebay last weekend. 50 mile trip to view it only to find it was riddled with damp !! and yet people are still bidding to buy this van.
We live in the West Midlands and there are not many local vans selling at the moment .... and any half decent ones that are advertised on Ebay are snapped up very quickly.
But there has got to be one out there with my name on, i hope anyway would like to get away easter with my hubby and kids.
My advice is not to go on ebay and go to dealers, you may spend just a little more but if a dealer is asked, to put in writing, the damp (or not) state - you have legal recourse. The saying goes.. "If a deal looks too good to be true.. it probably is."
At this time of year, dealers should be choc-a-block with trade ins, AND they have to get rid for the new 2009 models. Depending on what money you have, 2008 new vans are the best money at the moment.
Hi Paul we experienced the very same, after years of tenting it we decided to go for it. We really struggled to find a 5 berth privately, stick with it you will get there if you have not bought already Reads in Blackburn currently have one for 2795 (was 3k) its a trade in and i have been in it its an ideal starter check the web pic,s available.. good luck
yep the sites are expecting good season due to cc we not going abroad i went for two gone same day its the fashion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for my latest ditched end wash luxury £3000 van for £300, retro look is in ,well thats the rumour i'm starting.

No problem! But guess what, we've just found a bit of damp in our caravan (bugger). Not too put off though as we've caught it early but if we'd taken our own advice (take a damp meter before you buy) we would have picked it up!! Still, got it for a bargain price - would have been more gutted if we'd paid full whack then had to pay for damp repair. We're going to repair ourselves with advice from the Wizard/Caradad and the Fix It Club. Still happy to stick with the tin tent! Good luck with your future purchase!
