Twin axle, two more tyres to replace when needed and extra brake hubs to service.

To save space, I am happy to leave the debate "on the table " re the other points, but the idea of running on a tandem axle with one tyre deflated is a sure recipe for a fire, and potential disaster. As you say, the danger is in not knowing one tyre is deflating, and in consequence it is important to control tyre pressures. But I have seen too many truck tyres on fire to recommend that procedure.

You will find that most of the negative stuff about twin axle caravans comes under the category ' urban myth'.

We have had both types and can say without fear that a twin axle is safer and tows better, I do not find it any harder to reverse, and it is very much smoother to tow with.

Having had a wheel come off a single axle and seeing the damage caused I feel safer with the twin, the point on tyre preasures is a very good one. 32psi on our current twin as opposed to 52psi on the single.

We have never had any problems with sites, don't forget you have a lower weight per wheel with a twin, a large single axle will damage grass far more.

But each to his own it is what suits your needs that matters.

yes, I would go with the layout and size that suits, and not worry how many axles it has!

Twin Axles are always more popular with that segment of our society who prefer to obtain their caravans without paying for them - consequently, they attract a higher insurance premium or are refused cover by some insurers.

we have had our T/A nearly 2 years now , took it down to Spain Christmas before last , and last August we went to the Dordogne in France , everything inside was still in its place at arrival , i find it a doddle to reverse onto a pitch , in fact before we picked it up i had a front towbar fitted , i have never had to use it yet , the other thing is with 4 wheels on the road you have a larger footprint in contact with the road surface , also you have 4 brakes , i have never been refused a pitch on a site as yet , as there is only my wife and i , i find the extra space , and fixed bed more comfy
