I felt I had to comment on here as I have just returned from a week long holiday at a forestry commission campsite with no EHU. I had to listen to a generator every evening until at least 3 or 4 in the morning.
If someone comes to a site and needs as much power as that then they should be going to sites with electricity.
I have a generator which I used for half an hour as my fridge would not start using the gas. It was to check if the fridge worked on mains power. I then tried gas again and it lit first time. Generater had served its purpose and was not needed again.
Generators should be used with consideration to others.

It seems to be that more people are using aircon in vans and motorhomes, last year I was between a motorhome and a caravan who ran the aircon 24/7 my Honda eu10i, if I had used it, would have been drowned out.

We have air con and it is really quiet, but we do not use it overnight.

Have experienced someone using a gennie on an EHU site (WHY???) , it was awful! They (a motorhome) seemingly intended to leave it running all night, we got the warden onto them and it was soon turned off.

We have a generator, Yanmar 4 stroke, pretty quiet, for the odd times when we are unable to access mains to charge my wifes disability scooter. Usually this is at steam engine rallies, and as we often have 20 tons of steam engine chugging away in front of the van you can't hear the genny anyway. On the few occasions we have needed to use it on a "normal" site we stick to the CC guidelines never before 9am or after 6pm., though normally if ehu is not available site owners are usually able to provide somewhere to plug the charger in anyway. For 12v in the van we carry 2 85ah batteries and have managed 11 days without charging them.

     Pete.

Anything that you do on a campsite or anywhere else for that matter, that annoys other people is bad news.

Generator etiquette? Be considerate and don't take it. If it's really, really necessary, say for some sort of medical back-up, run it as little as possible during hours when there's normally a lot of other noise on site and never during night curfew hours. Plus if you explain to your neighbours exactly why you need the generator they might be slightly more tolerant of the noise. But otherwise there's few campers that want to have that sort of annoying noise right next door to them 24/7, or even for half an hour.

Telling someone who may need a generator for medical backup not to use it during the night is pretty inconsiderate I would have thought...

We have a generator last time it was used out it was running all day long because it was needed all day long although it was on a stand at a show

I think there are as many inconsiderate users of generators as there are inconsiderate campers who complain about your use of a generator without bothering to understand what you need it for.

viggo hit the nail on the head ,what about all the other site noise , yapping dogs ,lawn mowers , people starting there cars at 6,30 am to drive around to the toilet block , the boom boom boom of footballs being bounced , radio's blaring ,people shouting ,so why pick on the genny , the only reason i wouldnt use one is the cost of fuel ,
