right I'll make no bones about this I am of the same opinion as Mr Clarkson on caravans BUT the wife wants one she's decided she doesn't like tents, wish she told me before I shelled out for one , I know less than bugger all about caravans and have a limited budget, £2000, there are 3 of us and the car is a 54 Passat 130 TDI what should I be looking for age and make wise?? Thanks

it also depends when you passed your test what weight you can tow don't know the full details but I think your alright before 97

My Hubby was exactly the same as you and Mr Clarkson,he point lank refused to tow a caravan at 50mph!

Now though he is loving it!!!!

We have just come back from our first trip away in it (we paid £1850 for a 4 berth just to see how much we really liked it)
Compared to camping which we previously did but got so fed up of pitching in the rain and mud in and out of tent etc we 100% prefer caravanning!
It was so nice to turn up and wind the legs down, get the water etc and be sat in your van with less arguments than we used to have pitching up the tent.
Give it a go!You will wonder why you never did it sooner!
