I live on the A458 about mid way between Brum and Barmouth, and like others cant believe you havent been to Barmouth before, I thought during the summer months it became a suburb of Brum!
Best route is a previously stated M6, M54, then A458 through Welshpool and continue to Dolgellau then A496 to Barmouth. Travelled the route myself recently towing our Pegasus and so long as you take your time and watch the road rather than fantastic views you will be fine! Enjoy your stay
