Yes it could matter because spares won't be being made so once current stocks run out you could find you can't get panels, for instance, if yours were damaged in an accident. It would likely be written off by the insurance company and cause you a bit of a headache. If it were a non insured problem you could be left with a non repairable van, worse case scenario.
The price should reflect the fact they don't exist any more too!
TBH there are plenty of 7 or 8 year old vans out there from companies that are still trading. Swift group, Bailey etc.
thing is the comparable size and age vans in the other makes are twice the price, so i guess thats the risk were taking as i dont have twice the money , and otherwise would be looking at a much older or even smaller van .
guess ive talked myself into this one as its the best we can afford , so i suppose the fact theyre not trading is reflected in the lower price.
bit late to worry now as i already paid the deposit , and am getting a lot of van for my money , so will have to make sure its insured , and hope we have many years happy caravanning with it . fingers crossed

Yes that is why it is cheaper than others. Chances are you won't have any problems but if it is anything major and involves panels etc then it could be a headache. Pays yer money and takes yer chance as they say! Good luck and many happy vanning hols.
thanks , im quite excited now , we will drive from nottingham to cornwall to pick it up saturday and probably overnight in it before coming back sunday, then we have already booked for whitsun and we can go in the new posh van instead of the ancient lunar ( which is also a lovely van but practically antique lol).
Good for you cat39. I personally wouldn't worry too much about Avondale going out of business. Thats what insurance is for. Enjoy your 'van knowing you have got a good deal.
thanks for the reassurance, i just have my fingers very tightly crossed now , that after driving the 5 hours to cornwall we find the van to be all that it should be .
if i find any problems i certainly wont be parting with my cash , but will be gutted none the less
Is the kerbweight of the bus 3500 kgs as the GVW will probably be then higher allowing you to tow a Hobby. I can legally tow with my Toyota Hi Lux Surf as it is an import and the V5 does not state the GVW however I have no interest in a Hobby caravan.
Surfer they state the GVW is 3500 kg and it is this that needs to be 3501 kg or higher.
Ali
I appreciate what you are saying but hopefully the OP has not mixed up the kerbweight with GVW. My friend tows their Hobby 750 with a mini bus as the bus is used to make a living.
our gvw is definately 3500 , and therfore not legal for the wider vans (and believe me ive agonised and researched for many many hours , but its a fact)
even though its a huge 17 seater lwb high top , still cant use it to tow a hobby.
have now settled for a big avondale twin wheeler at 7'6 wide(point 2 of an inch under i believe ).
oh and the real gutter is , even though we dont class as the larger commercial for towing purpose( by 1 kg difference) , we have always had to have commercial insurance for this minibus, which costs an arm and leg,
our gvw is definately 3500 , and therfore not legal for the wider vans (and believe me ive agonised and researched for many many hours , but its a fact)

Only as a matter of interest as you have bought an Avondale, what is the kerbweight for your bus which seems to be about the same size as our friend's bus. off hand I can't remember the make of their bus.
Actualy it is quite annoying that they have thsi restriction in Britain for British residents but once again foreigners do not have to bother. There are many vehicles on our roads more than capable of handling the biggest Hobby with ease but because of a few inches it is verboten!
