what bearing have reversing lights and foglights got to do with this i wonder and as for not having headlights on your vehicle show me a car , truck , motorcycle that does not have headlamps fitted unless your talking about something thats steam powered perhaps ,and you most cetainly cannot dazzle oncoming vehicles because your headlamps dip to the left . Oh and by the way A Frames are technically not legal as there is no official ruling on there use as such and untill its in black and white from the goverment this will remain a grey area

p.s try telling this to the motorhomer that was pitched on the same site as me in Portugal this year  and was fined ON THE SPOT OR JAIL for towing a car with an A frame and no amount of protesting the rules worked for him

i was only making a point that there is a ruling about not having to modify our vehicles when visiting other eurpean countries. as regards r.fogs n rev. lights we have different positioning of them in construction n use regs. it is in black n white about a frames as dept of transport has issued statements. it only started as an innocent remark about the construction n use regs. as set by europe then get altered by police etc. i did see lots of a frames in spain n portugal this year i also spoke to the owner of the french company that makes them, he has now got type aprovel in france. so life goes on have fun lets not get too uhappy we may need each other one day. cheers alan.

lights are not a requirment in this country . only if you drive in adverse conditions or at night .but it doesnt matter how much power a gendarme thinks he has, european law is not made by them, its only there job to uphold it. thats why english drivers use a frames in france etc. also why we are allowed to have our steering wheel on the wrong side to the rest of europe.  also when we visit europe reversing lights n rear fog lights are on wrong side ,we dont get advise to change themm, why?  because of the rulers i used in the begining.

If you drive a vehicle in this country the obligatory lights must work, day or night!

lights do not have to be fitted . only between sunset till sunrise /adverse conditions do obligatory lights have to be used. just to let you know i do stand by what i say and have succesfully won many cases of law in courts fighting authority. the biggest case was about illegal signage in dorset. its probably the biggest in british motoring history and is in the process of the returning 3.5 million pounds to the innocent motorists involved. i admit to not liking authority that breaks the law . we cant so they cant . keep your eyes on who,s whatching you.

A vehicle without lights wouldn't get type approval.

GB sticker on the back window bottom left hand corner - its easier to remove from the glass if you want to hehe. Plus also always fit beam benders or equivalent to your front headlights just to be sure the French highway police do not stop you and give you a fine. They can fine you even during daylight if they feel like it! Why give them a reason? And remember to put 4 visi-jackets in the cabin of the car (not the boot) because this is their new revenue raiser - no jackets = fine (if you are stopped). For what it costs, it is better to be the right side of the law - oh and do not forget 2 (silly but ture aparently) breakdown triangles if you are going to Spain - otherwise you may end up in trouble again. Joke rules, but real fines

Hi all regarding lights on cars or motorcycles you can get what is called a daylight hours MOT without lights.

This taken from VOSA site,
"Front and Rear Position Lamps
This inspection applies to: all vehicles, except those which either have no front or rear position lamps or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are · only used during daylight hours, and · not used at times of seriously reduced visibility If this situation occurs, the vehicle presenter should be issued with a VT32 (advisory notice) recording the above."

I don't know if they would be legal in Europe but you can defiantly drive without lights in England.

Hope that sheds some light on the matter

It's quite simple really, all obligatory lights that are fitted, must function in the correct manner.

Oh and lights not needed, vwalan, does it not get foggy or pour with rain when you are on the road?

You know, sometimes when questions are asked on here the replies are far better and more entertaining than anything on the telly.....................i love it!

Take away the number he first thought of and then turn on your headlights complete with beambenders to see the answer!

I'd have to check the EU guidelines on that?
