The only time it would be an advantage not to drive with tthe hitch lock fitted is if you had an accident and the outfit stayed upright, without a lock the caravan could be slightly more quickly detached and moved if there was a gas cylinder fire, if the caravan is on its side, you will not be able to move it whether it is locked to the car or not.

BTW, I travel with my Alko lock attached.

Why travel with the lock on? I've never heard of a caravan being stolen on the move or whilst stopped at traffic lights!

If you are so worried (paranoid!) about thefts when you stop at a Services, you won't forget to put the lock on!

Nothing on using whilst on the move.

if the rescue crews want to split an outfit then the hydraulic jaws will cut the coupling in seconds

personally I dont use mine on the road but do put it on at services, takes a few seconds to put on and remove.... simples
