It can be fun trying to find the correct satellite. There is one every 3 degrees from 13e to 32e so finding Astra 2d can be difficult. If you use one of the simple meters which just indicates signal strength then you could be getting the best signal but you don't know which satellite its from until you try to tune your receiver. I splashed out and bought a slightly more sophisticated meter but it only registers when you point the dish at the satellite you've selected that the meter find. Much quicker less than 2 minutes a go. Down side was the price

Hi,Dave care to share the details of the all singing/dancing sat finder?
------------- Cheers Jim.I Reserve The Right To Be Wrong.
Jings oh, must just have been me then! When i attached the sat meter i didn't even get a power on green light, maybees the box is faulty? i'll try it in the garden and see how i get on, i would like to keep it cos it is pretty handy to have.
Bryan
Hi Bryan, when you connected up your sat finder was your decoding box powered on? The sat finder gets its power from the sky box or whatever make you've got.
As others have said, point your dish east and then slowly rotate to the south. The first satellite you come to is Astra.
Hi Crypto, yes the power on the decoder was on i tried it on standby and then tried it fully on, still nothing on the leds, i think i had the dish tilted back at to steep an angle to get the satellite but thanks very much for the tips , i really do appreciate the help.
I've just been trying to help my pal set up his suitcase mini-dish system. It's an old Elta Sat bit of kit.
Having got nowhere after several minutes, I replaced the box with a sky box, so that I can get the dish pointed in the right direction using the sky-box's inbuilt signal strength meter.
The Elta doesn't seem to give any help to say when you are locked onto a satellite, so I seemed to be working in the dark. Have I missed something?
Supper was ready, so I'll return to that later.
It seems a very old bit of kit, and the instructions say it needs the Astra 1A/2A/3A satellites. Is that different from the satellite the sky system uses?.

Hi Bryan,
the green led is to indicate that there is power to the finder. Maybe you have a duff unit or perhaps a short on one of you cables, I assume you have a short cable to the dish and your normal long one to the decoder. Might be worth checking the f connectors, they usually twist on and off. Look for a stray strand from the outer sheath touching the solid inner core.
To be honest, I bought a sat finder, only £10 in B&Q but I didn't find it to be very helpful. I think it's better to have the test page up on the TV with the volume turned up. You have to move more slowly for the digibox to decode the signal but it's always worked well for me.
satellite, first time, three hours.i now find it in 15 minutes flat.have dish very slightly forward 20deg.find south, then point the dish to 145 degs to eastwards.this should find the satellite you need, astra 28.if you use a sky box, press services/no4.system set up/then 6 signal test/network id needs to be 0002/transport stream 07d4.all you want then is a good signal strength and 50% quality. i use the maplin one and its great.
