We use two of the blue 4.5kg butane as i have one as a spare but it doubles up as my Cadac (Gas BBQ) gas supply and then i can still use the van onboard oven as well as the cadac. We did have a Camping Gaz 907 for the Cadac but these are expensive to fill and it was more cost effective to have two 4.5kg butane, especially as we do not have a Gas BBQ point on the van.
We also have a further back up red propane bottle 3.9kg for deepest winter use.
Thanks again. My van is a 1998 Avondale Leda Pentland. The seller isn't sure where the owner's manual is, and because hubby and I haven't had a caravan before we've lots of questions. Thanks for the tip about getting gas bottles from the tip, will check that out over the weekend. Insurance is being organised through Caravan Guard, as reccommended by another thread. Hubby is hopefully collecting the caravan tomorrow, so by then we'll know what we have and haven't got. Thanks again to everyone who's replied so far.
Best stuff to pack is..
1. Beer/wine
2. see 1.
oh - and remember to pack a happy face - nobody likes to be grumpy camping even if the kids are giving you hell! Its all about fun - pack a bucket of fun and nothing else matters
I don't think anyone has mentioned a fire extinguisher or first aid box. Has anyone mention the barbecue, matches and BBQ tools & coals. See the way I'm thinking.... fits nicely with the fire extinguisher & first aid box! Spare caravan fuses/bulbs. Umbrella, if staying in the UK. Electric fan(s) if going abroad.
Rechargeable electric drill and bit to wind the corner steadies up and down. A clock for inside the van if not already fitted. We always carry ant powder (more necessary if going to France), disinfectant, paracetemol, fly spray, bug candles. Spare plastic wine/ beer glasses (only to be used in emergency, when the glass ones get broken).
we found when we went out for the first time was to go to a site near your home and near a caravan and camping shop. or easy drive to. so when we set up and thought we havent brought this we either went home or to the caravan shop. most other caravaners will help you so dont worry. enjoy your trip x x x
