I joined both!  If you use sites often enough it pays back in no time.  For visiting Scotland, which we like to do a lot, the Camping & Caravan has more sites but I personally think the Caravan club sites are probably slightly better overall.  On the other hand....there are lots of great sites that aren't part of either!

We are members of both, but don't often use club sites. We use CLs and CSs a lot.

Yes the Camping and Caravanning Club sites do have hook ups, and the magazine is great!

I would ask yourself before joining either why you would want to join and what you hope to get from your membership.

If you want access to their sites, then which one you join depends on whose sites you would be most likely to visit. I have stayed on sites for both clubs and would say there is very little between them. I find the staff on the CC sites to be friendlier, but I think it unfair to generalise that way as this is the people, not the club. I would point out that neither club is cheap for their sites and personally I do not much like them. There are commercial sites which are just as good and often better priced. Therefore if you just want their sites then I would suggest that you might be disappointed in either club.

There are other elements to join for though. The CC operate CLs and C+CC operate CSs. These are private sites licenced by the clubs to just 5 caravans. One of the clubs has more than the other but I cannot remember which one it is. The number they have is not really important as there are lots for both clubs and really nothing to choose between them. These sites usually have limited facilities, although the facilities are generally improving, most have a toilet and some have a shower, but don't expect a modern toilet or shower block as you will more often than not be dissappointed.
There is usually a very friendly atmosphere on these site and they are also usually very cheap. Generally between £7 and £12 per night and usually no charge for extra occupants, awnings etc. If this is what you wish to join for snd you will get enough use from them then either site club can be good value.

One of the other things you can join for is the regional centres. Both clubs offer some form of local centre. In my experience, the CC are much better organized. These centres will organize rallies and other social gatherings. These are a great opportunity to make new friends. With the C+CC rallies you do not need to book and can turn up enannounced. Personally I was always weary of doing this and finding them full. They also often take on a field for a few weeks in the summer and operate a "temporary holiday site" these can be fantastic value for money.
The CC also operate rallies and social gatherings. These tend to run throughout the year as caravanners are able to do it at winter too! Again, these are excellent value and often get discounts at the venues too (For example, a rally at Longleat will get you 30% discount on the attraction as well as low cost accomodation)
In my opinion, the CC are far better organised in this area, but concede that this might just be in my area.
Rallying is well worth joining for. You can save the cost of joining the club in just one rally.

There is of course the magazines. Personally I find the CC magazine far better as a caravanner as I am not really interested in seeing reviews on tents and the C+CC do tend to be somewhat condecending in their editing and have something of an amatur publication feel when reading it. The CC magazine is as good as any on the newsagents shelf and if you are going to read it is I guess worth joining for on it's own. It comes out monthly and at about £40 membership, works out at about £3.33 per issue. A little bit less than you would pay in the supermarket for a caravan magazine. You also get the financial services like the eligability for insurance, credit cars etc through the club. None of them are worth joining for but do all add a bit of value to the membership.

I have tried them both. Starting with the CC with our first caravan, then after a few years break joined them both when we had a trailer tent (don't recommend the CC for tenters BTW) cancelled the CC for the second year with the TT then when we went back to a caravan, I went back to the CC. Lat year we joined the C+CC as we wanted to use one of their sites and when the non member suppliment was added it worked out cheaper to join than pay the suppliment.

We are now just with the CC and feel we get a great value for money out of them as we are regular ralliers, though if for some reason we stopped rallying we would cease to be members. Having said that if we stopped rallying we would cease to be caravanners.

Isn't it strange I wrote 'po faced' in a post and the post disappeared whereas legsdownkettleon says CC is friendlier and that post doesn't disappear? One wonders what happened to free expression of opinion? If we were all in agreement the whole time life could be a tad boring?

There are lots more CLs (Caravan Club) than CSs and we tend to use/prefer the former. Some are very good indeed.

We were in both clubs. Stayed at plenty of sites run by both and had no real problems with any. Quality of site, prices, friendliness, rules etc. are much of a muchness at both from our experiences. (IE. Both very good and no complaints). When renewals came around this year we didnt bother with the Caravan Club but did renew the Camping and Caravan Club.

We let the Caravan Club membership go because most of the sites we would want to book were forward (block) booked over all weekends and likely breaks we would be looking at. I assume this is down to the different booking systems (c & cc require a deposit).

Having tried both we're happy to stick with camping & caravan club - especially as we find (later) availablilty of sites we want better.

We are in both, C & CC for about 6 yrs and CC just this year to see what it is like.

We booked our french trip with CC and they were very good, but saying that still prefer the C & CC (more family friendly) and won't be renewing the CC, we feel like we should use the sites to get our use out of the membership but just don't have time to use both! I do think the CC pitches work out more expensive too.

We are members of both as we tend to use CS and CL's and so have even more choice !!

One difference we have noticed recently (apart from tents, deposits etc) is that the CC have about 4 times as many club sites open all year, especially over the Xmas and New Year period than the C&CC. This maybe due to the sites having more hardstandings perhaps ?

More to do with the fact that the CC has about 36 members for each pitch, the fact that they are booked says that the CC is better at filling it's pitches than the CCC.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Nothing wrong with the choice wrong and incorrect reason though, the people who you find on each of the clubs sites are the same there is no difference in attitudes at all between them.

What an amazingly stange way of making a decision. New one on me. I tend to look at what the Clubs have to offer and how they organise themselves rather than who I am likely to meet on site.

No doubt there'll be a flood of denials, but the Caravan Club can appear, relative to the C & CC, to be somewhat elitist.
