I would ask yourself before joining either why you would want to join and what you hope to get from your membership.
If you want access to their sites, then which one you join depends on whose sites you would be most likely to visit. I have stayed on sites for both clubs and would say there is very little between them. I find the staff on the CC sites to be friendlier, but I think it unfair to generalise that way as this is the people, not the club. I would point out that neither club is cheap for their sites and personally I do not much like them. There are commercial sites which are just as good and often better priced. Therefore if you just want their sites then I would suggest that you might be disappointed in either club.
There are other elements to join for though. The CC operate CLs and C+CC operate CSs. These are private sites licenced by the clubs to just 5 caravans. One of the clubs has more than the other but I cannot remember which one it is. The number they have is not really important as there are lots for both clubs and really nothing to choose between them. These sites usually have limited facilities, although the facilities are generally improving, most have a toilet and some have a shower, but don't expect a modern toilet or shower block as you will more often than not be dissappointed.
There is usually a very friendly atmosphere on these site and they are also usually very cheap. Generally between £7 and £12 per night and usually no charge for extra occupants, awnings etc. If this is what you wish to join for snd you will get enough use from them then either site club can be good value.
One of the other things you can join for is the regional centres. Both clubs offer some form of local centre. In my experience, the CC are much better organized. These centres will organize rallies and other social gatherings. These are a great opportunity to make new friends. With the C+CC rallies you do not need to book and can turn up enannounced. Personally I was always weary of doing this and finding them full. They also often take on a field for a few weeks in the summer and operate a "temporary holiday site" these can be fantastic value for money.
The CC also operate rallies and social gatherings. These tend to run throughout the year as caravanners are able to do it at winter too! Again, these are excellent value and often get discounts at the venues too (For example, a rally at Longleat will get you 30% discount on the attraction as well as low cost accomodation)
In my opinion, the CC are far better organised in this area, but concede that this might just be in my area.
Rallying is well worth joining for. You can save the cost of joining the club in just one rally.
There is of course the magazines. Personally I find the CC magazine far better as a caravanner as I am not really interested in seeing reviews on tents and the C+CC do tend to be somewhat condecending in their editing and have something of an amatur publication feel when reading it. The CC magazine is as good as any on the newsagents shelf and if you are going to read it is I guess worth joining for on it's own. It comes out monthly and at about £40 membership, works out at about £3.33 per issue. A little bit less than you would pay in the supermarket for a caravan magazine. You also get the financial services like the eligability for insurance, credit cars etc through the club. None of them are worth joining for but do all add a bit of value to the membership.
I have tried them both. Starting with the CC with our first caravan, then after a few years break joined them both when we had a trailer tent (don't recommend the CC for tenters BTW) cancelled the CC for the second year with the TT then when we went back to a caravan, I went back to the CC. Lat year we joined the C+CC as we wanted to use one of their sites and when the non member suppliment was added it worked out cheaper to join than pay the suppliment.
We are now just with the CC and feel we get a great value for money out of them as we are regular ralliers, though if for some reason we stopped rallying we would cease to be members. Having said that if we stopped rallying we would cease to be caravanners.
