The site owners are no different frfom any other business; if you'll be happy to pay more they'll be happy to take your money! Now that more folks are holidaying in the UK to save a bit of money the site owners (CC and C&CC included) are taking full advantage and grabbing all the profits they can, as are the Government by allowing speculators to hike the fuel prices so they can get a bigger slice of the tax on fuel.

The UK is in a sorry state, which is putting it mildly, and greed is what put us there, so we shouldn't be surprised at the site fees escalating.

We should all COMPLAIN to the site owners, whether club sites or private, and do it  by letter, asking for a written explanation to justify their increases.

i think they have gone up a lot too. and what do we get a toilet block that we use once a day and the electrics that i think does cost a lot. but then i have seen what some people use electric everything heaters. cookers. microwaves. etc. we only use basic electrics, fridge, kettle, tv.

but there are still some cheap sites around as others have said .

Someone mentioned the reduction of VAt from 17.5% down to 15% should have seen a reduction in charges. Has anyone seen the reduction in site fees? I haven't!

If you look at the price panel in the current CC directory and compare that with the current price given on their website the reduction is there for all to see.

I think it's unfair of you to comment on people using "electric everything heaters, cookers, microwaves, etc" when you list one of your "basic electrics" as a TV......

Many campsites have had to put their tariffs up to cover the increased costs that they will have had to face this year. They will have no doubt had an increase in fuel costs, business rates, water rates, insurance etc plus possibly having to employ more staff to cope with the anticipated increase in demand this year, and they have to recoup these costs somehow. Campsites are businesses not charities and they do need to at least break even if not make a profit in order to stay in business.

I don't know what other type of holiday a family can have for less than £30.00 a night in high season but if you don't like the tariffs a campsite is charging then don't go and try to find something or somewhere else cheaper instead.

Surely the increase in numbers will pay for the extra staff?

Caz - yes but the staff have had to be employed in advance in order to cope with the anticipated demand so they still need to be paid even if demand stays the same if you see what I mean. If campsites are very busy this year it should mean that they shouldn't have to make big price increases next year!! Hopefully?

Local travel agent's window has an advert; Turkey, 10 nights, £210 for two, flights from Glasgow!

Aye, the UK will price itself out of the best chance they've had of keeping us in the country for holidays.

The site we use most often have not increased their prices since 2003 and is not doing so again this year, despite spending a lot of money on upgrading the site electrics. As for their facilities you would be hard pushed to find a small site anywhere with such great amenities, Gents and ladies plus three shower rooms and a family bathroom, all of which are fully accessible for disabled people. Staff wise the owners are one of the best we have ever known and nothing is too much trouble, a sentiment echoed by the staff on site as well. Value for money and a great atmosphere are two of the most important aspects for us and this site covers that and so much more!

Where is it please...

One night at bunree = £27, two adults  3 kids.

Hi Niall24  £27 per night for a patch of ground smaller than most gardens , thats equal to £756 per month you can rent a house out in south Wales for that , now think what it costs to build a house , then work out the M2 of land , you are getting poor value for that meagre caravan pitch

There is a site we used last year at £34 for two nights, we booked to go back this year and the price was £66! - albeit last year was September and this year was May.

I rang them up because I thought there must be an error but no.  I was told that the site had changed hands and the new owners had put the prices up as they were intending to invest in the site in the future.  I asked what I was getting for the massive price hike now and was told we could have a free awning (we never bother for two nights) and under 5s are free (we don't have any of those).  The guy I spoke to on the phone actually asked me to write to the new owner, as he also felt the increase was excessive but the owner wouldn't listen to him.  I did write, and have had no response.

In the meantime we voted with our feet and went to another site just down the road at £39 for two nights, and it is actually a better site.  So they did us a favour by making us look around for something else - it's not always bad!

would never under any circumstances pay any of the money you lot are on about, most will be paid by us for a pitch and 2 adults and ellcy is £14 and that is paid grudgingly. hence why we are in the caravan club and caravan and camping club so we dont pay silly prices like that.

for the monies being quoted on here we could get a room for what you lot are paying for and get breakfast made!!

Well, when you can get a Premier Inn or Travel Lodge hotel room for £29 per night, £25 for a bit of grass and shared toilets sounds quite a lot; and bring your own bed, telly etc too.

UK prices are higher than on the continent, and often for inferior facilities. For £20 on the continent I would usually expect to get my own fresh water tap directly on the pitch, as well as elec'y etc. Its one more aspect of "rip off britain". Its still not as bad as hiring a caravan for £500 a week on a holiday park, though.

UK markets are used to a certain level of pricing.

I do worry about caravanning pricing people out of the market. Not just the vans, themselves, which are 25% dearer than the same marques on the continent, but also the ancillary costs of storage, insurance, servicing as well as pitch fees and lower towing mpg. For a couple, it must be just as cheap to stay in an hotel 9 times out of 10.

I had to pay about £180 for 2 nights B & B in a motel in Cornwall in January for 3 of us sharing one room, so even at the silly prices being quoted above it is cheaper than a hotel.

But personally I draw the line at £15 inc. EHU unless it's a special site for some reason.
