I've had two vans that had doors on the right side. They were both quite short vans so there was never a problem, on the odd occasion when the site managers wanted them nose first then they had to push them on for me. But this has happened a couple of times with ones that have the door on the left, as well.

Asked a similar question about the same subject on another thread and got lots of defensive answers from the owners of these caravans saying they had no problems.
These days with large tents and caravans and problems with pitch sizes i would not want to arrive on site and be made to pitch facing a load of bushes for a 2 weeks on a site the enforces its rules
Andy
No defensive answers. Since we got a continental caravan we never think about the door being a issue and have never had a problem. We have never been made to face a load of bushes if we didn't want to. Sounds like you are trying to invent a problem when there isn't one.
Hear hear, we've never had any problems either, not defensive answers, just speaking as we find!

Not criticising your choice of van but the OP asked if anybody has had any problems in pitching and obviously some people have so the problem is already there.
On some sites you will be asked to pitch in the same place as everybody else and others with plenty of room you may be able to do what you like.On CC sites they sometimes ask you to pitch in the centre of the pitch so it would make no difference which side the door was on as you just put the car the other side.
You like your van and i like mine but if you were pitched next to me and you were too close i would ask you to move just as i would anyone else.
We're just about to pick up an Esterel folding caravan, and that has the door on the 'wrong side' eek! Never thought it would be a problem to be honest

It won't be a problem ! we just spin our small caravan round so it faces the same as all the rest ! or ask before pitching which way they prefer ! never been refused a pitch ! Just check before booking ! there are loads of vans with doors on the continental side !! ENJOY your new folder...
Very interesting discussion. My van has the continental door which is perfect for continental touring of course. I suppose continentals coming over here must have the same issues?
With the motor mover I can pitch any way anyone wants - no problem. However, the problem I have met, but only twice in the last 6 years, is about pitching so that the tow hitch is always facing outwards - claimed by those two C&CC Wardens "So that fast removal can be done if necessary" Oh yes? With awning, hitchlock, wheel clamp etc? - I don't think so!!
I raised the issue with the Camping and Caravanning Club Site's Director, at the NEC once, who said we can pitch whichever way WE prefer - there are no restrictions of that kind. Since then, no problems.
Lay-bys on UK roads are a different matter. We look for those that are 'loops' off the road, not just wide bits at the roadside.
We used to have an Adria Altea 432 with the door on the 'other side' and never encountered any problems. As for the build quality in one word 'excellent' it never put a foot wrong or went back to the dealer for other than routine servicing.
Have a Hymer, and have never ever had a problem either on private sites or Caravan Club sites. If you are worried, then get a mover, a useful bit of kit anyway as continental vans tend to be heavier than UK ones as they are a jolly site better built!
Sorry but i'm going to ruffle some feathers here! There soooooo is a problem with these vans on sites. Why is it i rang 5 sites yesterday, only to be told by 4 that NO you' can't bring your caravan here! I've rang others in the past too and been refused. It seems to me that scotland is the best place to go if you have a van with the door on the wrong side. Which is no good to me as i like to tour Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.
Were you refused because your van is a Hobby or because the door is on the right hand side. It has been said on here that some sites refuse Hobby caravans.
I agree, it's the make rather than the fact that the door is on the wriong side. Many sites will not accept Hobbies or LMC but are happy to take others such as Adrias & Hymers.

I've never ever been asked what make my van is! I just make the booking for a caravan, awning plus two adults and two dogs. Soe sites don't allow dogs, so I don't even bother looking at those, fair enough if that's their rules though.

Both! the ones i spoke to yesterday knew it was a hobby and used the excuse of the door on wrong side. Which is whether i'm still getting shot of it lol! The chap who was meant to buy it has contacted our friend and said he still wants it but has come back from thailand with a stomache bug. He will have to wait now anyway until after our main holiday in cornwall next weekend.
Go to CC sites, they have no problem with (legal) Hobbys or doors on the wrong side.
As to the general discussion re doors on the wrong side......when we go abroad our doors are on the "wrong" side. We have travelled throughout Europe and this has rarely been a problem, we just turn the van the other way.
Most sites abroad do not think about it, so you need to point it out to them when they tell you how to site your van. They pack in the vans more than here, so be prepared to park up the "wrong way round".

Why do you mention the make of your van when you phone to enquire regarding a booking?I have never ever been asked, and I don't bother to say. Never been a problem when we arrive either.
