What I would like to know is, how do people without pumps inflate their tyres before the journey home?
Or do they drive around whilst on holiday (without the van attached), with over inflated tyres?

"If I let go of what I am, I can become what I might be".
I don't normally make short trips with the caravan, most vary from 100 to 800 miles so I check them before each trip, as well as visually checking the tyres for part deflation at rest stops.
Never rely on a garage forecourt gauge! They may be calibrated periodically but lots of them are wrong.
Iidls have a digital tyre pressure gauge coming in shortly. It goes right up to 120 psi, I'll be buying one of those. I bought a cheap tool kit there several years ago & the tyre pressure gauge in that is brilliant, it doesn't go high enough for my lorry though whereas the 120psi one will be fine.
You'll find a lot easier access to the airline at a motorway services than a local filling station. If you're concerned about the pressures, why not get a neighbour to check them for you.
I agree with Lobey - we bought a Ring RAC 600 as our van requires 65psi. Many service station air lines did not go up to that pressure, plus if you have to drive to a station the tyres will heat up. We use the inflator at storage - it is so simple to use, just plug in to the cars cigarette lighter, set the psi required and switch on. As Lobey says the connection is positive because it screws onto the tyre valve. Two of our friends have also bought a RAC 600 after seeing ours and we are all delighted with its performance.
RRP is about £29.99 but shop around - EBay has them under £20
3 cars, a horse trailer and a caravan. Its convenient to inflate the tyres at home rather than tow tthe van or horse trailer to nearest garage. It will pay for itself in time and fuel. I find its more useful than other some gadgets I could waste my money on. Because its there and easy to use I tend to check tyres often.
An air line is often handy for other jobs - e.g. when hobs get blockages.
Although garage forecourt airlines don't go high enough for some caravan tyres the airlines in motorway service areas do. The tyres on my lorry require 115psi & motorway service area airlines I've used in the past have been good enough for them.
I must be a bit old fashioned but I use a foot pump if the caravan tyres need topping up a bit before a journey.
Nobody so far has mentioned that the majority of cars need their tyres inflating higher when towing. It would be a right pain to have to stop at a garage each time you hitch up. A decent electric pump is definitely worth it, (or get a car where you don't need to increase tyre pressure when towing).
