Thanks everyone. I think I agree that the wall boards even though covered are not enough protection to stop damp. If it was an actual shower cubicle then I would definitely use it after all your positive comments. Has anyone used their showers (not cubicles) and not had a damp problem.....
Our previous van (1998 Sterling Emerald) had a folding screen at the front of the compartment, but the wallboards were that sort of vinyl surfaced stuff. The corner joint was sealed with silicone or similar.
We used the shower quite a lot, and I can honestly say that the walls and sealant looked as good after 10 years as when new, not a sign of damp.

Thanks Mags
The covering is completely waterproof, I have used caravan showers in all my caravans over 17 years and never had a damp problem caused by water from the shower. Only in the last van have we had a shower cubicle and in that van the walls of shower cubicle are the caravan walls apart from the front rounded section.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Our shower compartment has a shower tray and the same walls as the rest of the bathroom area. (fingers crossed) so far no damp and we always use the shower when in the caravan.
We wipe the walls down once the shower has been finished with, leave the windows and the vents open so air can circulate. We don't have the shower too hot either so less steam.
It beats having to get dressed in the morning to walk over to the shower block in the rain and cold to undress for a shower and dress again to walk back.
Yes thats the bit I dislike getting dressed to walk to the showers, in the morning, so will give using the shower ago and will wipe the walls down afterwards. Thanks loads. x
When I am away with the kids myself, the two youngest and I use the van while the eldest uses the facilities for ease. Sometimes when hubby is with us, I use sites if they are clean facilities.
I can shower two of them with one aquaroll and fill one up so that I can have a shower when they are asleep. Not had any problems with damp and we have one of the small shower rooms with the toilet in. The curtain goes right round and stops the toilet getting soaked although granted not much space to move in, but it's enough and easier than trying to keep control of two youngsters in a campsite shower facility while I have a shower.
Our van shower tends to have a better flow than campsites and I hate having to keep pressing buttons. I also like to take the shower head down to rinse my hair so hate those fixed shower heads in sites. Just be more careful of the water you use and it's fine.
We use site facilities where possible but we have a shower/toilet cubicle where the walls are special wallboard. So far so good and it is better than paying the 50p shower fee on our favourite site.
