My OH doesnt drive so I do all the towing.Been towing for 1 1/2 years now. He is confident in me now that he nods off on the motorways!!!
My dad took me out for a practice run as he used to tow my horse box.
Just remember the extra mirrors you have on are a good indicator on your getting through a gap. As they stick out more , if they go through so will you .Take your time and the more you do it the more confident in your own ability you will become. And most of all, enjoy yourself. My car feels wierd without a big white thing in the mirrors!
------------- Don't ask me why I'm doing this

Hi I am a female tower and have been doing so for the past five years with no problems starting with a FC and moving up to a caravan.
My partner(female) reads the maps and when we get on site she reverses it onto pitch.
We make a great team I go forwards and she goes backwards what more could you want.
I encourage all females who feel they would like to tow to give it a go and take it easy.
cheers kathy
If youhave got a a hang up about driving a large vehicle then you're probably not going to like towing, otherwise as long as you think ahead what route you're taking and try to identify any problems. The thing that I worry about is if i had to turn it round unhitched,I wouldn't have the strength to move it but with the caravan movers that are available and look simple to use there's no need to be at a disadvantage to the guys.
have you noticed girls when we tow we get some funny, and some quite admiring glances off men! some ov them look at you also as if whats a woman doing towing that, esp at the lights when they nosy in your vehicle. have any of you girls ever had any snaking when your towing. so far ive been lucky both with the horse trailer and the vans. now that would be scary
hi there, ive always towed OH cant stand towing, i find it ok still bit nervious to start with but after 5mins on road all ok, hope this helps you go on girl!!!!!
i towed ours for the first time in april and had no trouble at all, in fact dh who was supposed to be teaching me fell asleep in the passenger seat!
he usually tows because it is one of the things he can do, there are a lot he cant do. We decided that i had to have done it at least once so if anything happens and he cant tow i can at least set off home slowly while the family are heading to rescue us!
I've always done our towing (12 years!) and any other long distance driving as OH has medical prob with arms - so it was me or nothing!
It's not rocket science - just take your time and as another post says get used to using the extended mirrors, remember manouevres take longer - accelerating, braking, turning - and you can reverse it just takes practice, always do it at a snails pace.
I'm just an ordinary wife and mum - so if I can do it so can all of you!!
Im female and i tow ours infact if I dont tow it - it dont move, I think all who enjoy our hobby should be able to tow even if its just incase of emergancy. So ladies get out there and have a go, its not that hard- honest
Brilliant to see hear so many women do tow, & of course there's nothing stopping us except lack of confidence, or - in some cases - blokes with chauvinist attitudes !
I am a `towing virgin' but I aim to bit the bullet soon ! Only just got our1st van together a few weeks ago & as oh is experienced tower (including horseboxes large & small) I left it up to him when we went away this time.
Can't pretend I'm actually looking forward to it, but I am determined to learn & do my share in future - if something bad happened & my oh was incapacitated I don't want to have to tow for the very 1st time when I'm stressed out. Anyway, I can't abide helpless females or chauvinist men - so I've got to... !
12 YEARS SINCE I LAST TOWED A CARAVAN AND BOUGHT A SMALL VAN.I AM OK ABOUT IT BUT REVERSING REALLY GETS ME USUALLY HAVE TO UNHITCH AS CANNOT GET THE JUST OF IT. ARE THEIR ANY MORE SINGLE MUMS WITH KIDS THAT TRAVEL ON THERE OWN TO SIGHTS ECT.I TEND TO STAY AS LOCAL AS POSSIBLE AS AM AFRAID OF BREAKING DOWN IF YOU TRAVEL IN CONVOY WITH ANOTHER VAN YOU MUST HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE
I have just returned from our holiday in County Durham with my 2 girls. I live in north Aberdeenshire and towed our 25ft 8" Bailey with my Nissan Navara.I am female and less than 5ft 3" tall!! I did get many funny looks from guys but just don't care. One guy in a petrol station on the way said to me, "I don't mean to be chauventistic but I nearly sh*t my pants when YOU got out of that set up!!" haha, towing is fine, just go for it :-}

They "don't mean to be" chauvinistic **** I wonder if they think being stupid is better ?! I too am tiny (& built like a flea), I drive a Landrover Defender & people frequently make comments like "how does a tiny thing like you manage to drive a big heavy vehicle like that ?" I drive it - I don't carry it aargh. Thank god they are not all the same !
The driving isn't difficult, just takes a bit of practice, but hitching and unhitching is surprisingly physical. The most difficult bit for my wife was getting the Alco stabiliser arm down - the solution was to sit on it!
