Same as Vulcan - we've got extension mirrors, but if someone is really close behind, you can't always see them in the mirrors but can through the van - but if your van doesn't have a rear window - ?????

Open for us and I am more than happy for people to have a nosey when we pass. Sorry but I always have a good look in other peoples caravans when passing and feel quite put out when the blinds are closed!(only joking - if you want to close your blinds then thats up to you). Took advice from this site and store with blinds open. The only time we close blinds is when on site at night.
We got told when we had our previous van not to tow with the blinds closed as it could damage the blinds if you go over a bump or something and they fly open.
------------- Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
Can't see through our 'van, and once it's packed we can't get in to the front, so we close the front curtains ready for storage (we like to keep them closed in storage so everything is not 'on show'). We have black side windows, so don't bother closing curtains on those, and would not leave blinds closed to protect the springs.

if you have your blinds down all the time, you`ll weaken the springs.
yes that's correct and expensive to repair if they will not adjust back.
We always tow with the blinds up but....
When not in use in the garden always have the blinds down, this is what we have done with all our caravans and not had any tension problems. Maybe we are just lucky.
I always think it would be cheaper to re tension a blind than to have to replace seat covers, curtains etc because of fading.
I tow with them open so I can check at regular stops to make sure the stuff I have piled up in the middle is not all over the place, so's not to have to unlock and open the door. When in the drive I don't use the blinds as I was also told the springs will ware but I do close the curtains.

In addition to the damage that could be done to the blinds' spring mechanism if they are left down when towing, there is also the consideration of the effect they have on others drivers travelling either behind or towards you if it is sunny.
The silver backing that most have is highly reflective and in strong sunshine the effect can be literally blinding.
Please keep blinds up when travelling, if you are worried about the sun fading the furniture or other folk peering in at your wordly possessions, then draw the curtains instead.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I read someplace that following motorists somehow found it irritating to be behind a caravan with curtains closed. I open mine so that I can see thro what is following me.
We travel with our blinds/curtains open, in storage the blinds are down except the roof blinds, that way when we go down to check it out every now & then in between our trips its light enough so we are not pulling a blind up each time to see.
I am always the 'passenger' when travelling and i have my visor down so i can see all the way through the van in the mirror on the visor.
On a few trips (the longer one's) we play count the caravans on the other side of the road/motorway to pass the time. Next time I will suggest count the 'blinds up & blinds down'. Will post the figures on here. Gosh do I sound sad or what. :O)
