I ain`t no chef, what oil do i need for pancakes please? I sprayed one cal on the griddle for the stuff i did last week. We have 2 daughters who could live on pancakes if allowed to, so this really appeals
Just a tad of vegetable oil to lightly grease the area, is sufficient for lovely pancakes
I use a really easy recipe of, 4oz plain flour, 1 egg, 1/2pt milk, & a pinch of salt, whisked up.
If we are all having them (5 of us), then I double the mixture.
Don't use too much oil though otherwise they will be swimming and not very nice
We've found our Cadac to have been a great buy and use it all the time. My only quibble is that once lit you have very little control over the flame. The gas knob only indicates open/close direction and its very easy to turn it off completely, then you have to lift the main pan or schottel off to re-light.
My pal bought one too after seeing ours but the non-stick effect on his smooth griddle seems to be faulted compared to ours which only needs the barest of wipe downs after use.
Won my cadac from the competition page on this website We got the little one with spring loaded legs. Our favorite breakfast is called (in our family) the dogs breakfast! Chop sausages into small bits and spread them out on the cadac 'hotplate'. A few mins later, add some chopped up bacon rasher (mis-shapes save £££s). Then add a few chopped mushrooms. When almost ready, break 3 eggs on top of the hotplate and other ingredients. Allow the eggs to finish off, then cut into portions and serve. Dogs breakfast is the db's ROFL!! For a tasty bbq use pork ribs in either chinese flavour sauce or lemon & honey cooked on the bbq grill with the lid on are delicious. Works just as well with chicken on the bone! We even managed to cook burgers and potato wedges on the griddle at the same time (lid on again). Want to try a pizza on it, but as yet have run out of mealtimes to try it out! Very versatile and easy to use, but for a family of 4 like ours a full sized cadac would be easier. I will put one on my christmas list once i finally wear out the little 'un!!

Relighting! Yes, be sure to lift the lid or skottel to relight. If you have the two-sided grill/pan on and it is too hot to remove, just wait a few minuted for the gas to clear via the vents in the underside of the unit.
Ref. the Teflon finish; there has been a recall and free replacement for some cadacs due to a faulty non-stick finish. Contact Cadac to see if yours is one of them.
Just one comment about using the Cadac. We use propane, and usually run the Cadac from the caravan's onboard gas point. However, to get a bit of shelter due to high winds, I did run it direct from the gas bottle by means of a pigtail with a dedicated Propane regulator. I noticed that the gas flame was stronger using this method. The only explanation that I can think of, unless it is because of a longer pipe run, is that the universal regulator gives a reduced pressure compared to the dedicated one.

I had the same problem on the safari (small one) and solved it with some tipex. I put a blob in the on the knob and a blob on the plastic cowl on the regulator to give me a visual reference. Now I find that if I turn on on full turn, the Max position on the regulator is just about max and the min position, just about min. Seems to work well!.
Ah, we were going to buy one this year, (we say the same every year), but still haven't got around to it. Do they do a recipe book or something? All those food suggestions sound really lush but I can't imagine how you cook it all. Roasties? Chicken? I'm assuming you put the chicken in a tin, on the hotplate or grill?
I love my cadac - gas i run mine off the BBQ on the Van - saves carrying heavy bottles
It would help this thread if people would post images of there setup ie when cooking a roast chicken use wire rack with grill pan etc etc.
One thing i find its one hell of a weight when packed up - im seriously thinking of getting a cadac safari (the little one) for the van and keep the carrychef for home!
The Safari is quite a bit smaller, but with planning its still big enough for me to cook for 5 on it (some keep warm / precooking in the van oven works well). The wok is certainly big enough for a 5 bod stir-fry.

Regarding the length of the gas hose. Before the Cadac, we bought a BBQ form a Calor main dealer. When discussing the provision of a gas hose to fit to the external point on our van, a length of 4 metres was agreed on. The Calor agent advised me that the only H&S issue with this length of hose was associated with tripping hazards; nothing to do with safety in relation to the gas itself. We now use this same length of hose for the Cadac.
I will concede that I get a stronger gas pressure when I use the 1 metre pigtail directly off the cylinder, but I think that is more to do with it being a Propane-specific regulator, as opposed to the universal one in the caravan.
