I was 60 when we took delivery of our first New Van. (see my gallery).

We went for this one because it should last at least 25 years and when I am in my 80's, and my insurance goes through the roof as it will, I will still be able to tow it with a small car.

I guess that older people are a bit more wordly wise about their own needs, having had years of experience with different forms of camping/caravanning and are a little less inclined to partake in impulse buying.

We thought long and hard about what we needed both now and in the future for our camping needs and having watched what has happened to our parents and our older friends and we came up with a practical list of must haves.

Now we tailor the buying of our accessories strictly to suit our needs and we certainly do not envisage ever buying another new caravan, no matter how super-duper the new models become.

You will bury me in this one before I give it up. 17

If the spirit is willing and the flesh is still up to it - go for it! There is a physical side to caravanning, especially when hitching up, but there are usually ways and means round it.

If it makes you happy and no-one gets hurt...

Many thanks to you all for you views.  What I omitted to say, was that we do already use a caravan but it is a 1994 Bailey.  We have had it for some years and it was our first.  We were caught when we bought it because one side was full of damp but with the help on the fixit club we repaired it and at the moment it is damp free.

So of course the disagreement between us was were we too old to buy a new one.

Again many thanks for your help
