My apologies, missed that from your first post as read quickly and saw the reference to the cover. Why bother with one with a lid if you're fitting in the battery compartment? You might find the angled surface mount type referred to within this thread as being easier to connect/disconnect as the actual socket can be mounted to face towards the compartment door.

i fitted one on the underside of the van near the battery box on the 500/5 with the hole facing backwards the wire passed through a vent and when not in use i fit a blank plug to keep it clean.been on a few years now with no problem.
