A vehicle seen in suspicious circumstances around the time of the theft was a 2.0 litre Silver/Gray Vauxhall Omega P264 NLG. Disturbed on drive of neighbouring farm. Police have got this number. I am also aware of an Omega beibg used to steal a Bailey Ranger from Oswaldwhitle on 5th Novemeber 2009. Been in touch with the victims of that theft and they have CCTV. The stills are great but no offenders caught. I guess these are the same people who took my van.
Hi,
ASK Mid says that the car is a Vauxhall Corsa!
P264NLG is on the Motor Insurance Database today

As was said on page one, tenth posting. Probably cloned
Thanks for pointing out my error.....
If I had read that I would not have risked getting "banged up" under the Data Protection laws.

I don't know if it's an offence to claim that something is an offence when it isn't, but...
There is nothing whatsoever illegal in using the above website, or indeed the DVLA, to find out somebody elses details, so long as you have "reasonable cause" to do so. The DVLA says:
What information may I request?
You may request any information held by or on behalf of DVLA and recorded in any form. This includes paper records (including hand written notes), information held on computers, other electronically held information (audio and video recordings), plans, maps, and photographs.
You are entitled to the information contained in documents, not to the documents themselves. However, where appropriate and convenient we may choose to provide a copy of the document rather than extracting the information from it.
Regulations allow the Agency to release information to applicants who can demonstrate “reasonable cause” for their request. If you are requesting information about another motorist you should click requesting information about another motorist for information on how to apply.
Nothing illegal at all. The website used is simply covering their backs.
So nobody is opening themselves up to prosecution, there is only one wrong (but still no right).
Also, the whole "where will it end" thing is the sort of thing the Daily Mail does when it is aware that it's front page story is essentially untrue, but wants to pad it out without resorting to libel. There are minor crimes and major crimes, and a sliding scale in between. Suggesting that condoning one crime is to condone all crime is to suggest that the crimes are comparable. They aren't.

To be honest, if your van's been gone over a week, I doubt they'll find it. Ours was found within 4 hours of being stolen & I only had that back because I had no option & lucky for us, the filthy scumbagsd hadn't had time to get into ours.
Had it been gone as long as yours has, IF we were made to accept it back, it'd have been traded in straight away. I wouldn't want it back after they've had it over a week.
Don't worry about the lectures over the number plate, they've no idea what it's like to have a caravan stolen from your home, the thought of it after 2 1/2 years have passed still makes me feel dirty.
I'd stick a claim in on the insurance & provided you're with the right cover, take the new for old payout & let them dispose of yours if they find it. Your van's 2007 so you're still within the 3 year new for old for another month at least.

Back in the mid-80's my parents had their van stolen... it was recovered and returned to them!
As it didn't have a built-in toilet, they used the shower tray!
My poor mum had to clean that. The van was traded in the next day.

I understand it is an offence to wrongfully obtain information of this nature without reasonable cause
from askmid site
I think having your caravan stolen is a reasonable cause for checking out a registration plate don't you? If is an offence to steal a caravan in the first place.
Absolutely NOT!!! two wrongs do not make a right, I don't care how strongly one feels about the theft of property, that is no excuse to use a database for which there is an express condition of use and and it was ignored. Wrong wrong wrong
Where will that end? "Oh I really want a caravan so bad, my family really needs a holiday, so even though I musn't steal one, my needs are greater than theirs so I will steal one"? And the behaviour of posting the whole thing here opens the webmasters to prosecution too!
Hi,
This database is available on the web for goodness sake....do you really think that the insurers gives a stuff who looks at the details...all it tells you is that the car is insured, not the owner, where they live or any personal details.
I wonder how many folk have been locked up for "asking MID?"
I rest my case.
