The tape qualitiy is invariably not up to standard for a successful prosecution anyway. Just another intrussion in the lives of innocent people. The "If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear" argument is not valid. These cameras are not reducing crime to any significant degree.

Have you got the statistics to show that CCTV is not working?  Town surveilance cameras generally have good quality video which has led to prosecutions.  Rather safe that sorry.

No, but then there are no statistics to show that they are working.

I would say that having served on a jury where cctv pictures where shown, not to identify people, but to show the violence used, You could not say for certain what sex they were  let alone identify individuals.

No amount of padlocks or other security devices are going to stop the determend thief from absconding with your possessions and likewise no amount of security surveillance is going to stop those hell bent on causing drunken trouble.

However, both security devices and cctv will stop the mischief makers, out to vandalise both our property and our peace and quiet and it will persuade them to hunt elsewhere for their thrills.

All I want on any campsite is to be able to choose how I spend my time there. I do not interfere with or disturb my neighbours and I expect the same from them in return.
But that is not always how it is and on two campsites this season we were disturbed by the loutish behaviour of other inconsiderate campers.

This would not have happened on either a CC or a C&CC site because these are patrolled at night and any such behaviour would have lead to confiscation of the perpetrators club membership and they would have been told to get off the site.

Our local caravan park (no longer with a touring part) is patrolled by security guards during the evenings and silent hours and any disturbance at all is quickly dealt with.

I am sure that the installation of cctv would be a cheaper option for our local site, but the residents there prefer the patrols and so that is what they have.

So for those that require a safe and secure campsite, it is either one that has strict rules that are enforced, foot patrolling security guards or cctv and controlled access.

For those sites that have none of these things, take a Baseball Bat and a set of Earplugs. 17

I think you have to accept big brother is watching you wherever you go, cctv is everywhere & everything about you is on computer. When you shop in Tesco & get your points they are getting info on your shopping habits, when you show your passport to immimigration all your info from the microchip comes up on screen. The cops would love everybodies DNA at birth.

I really don't care anymore, Ive nowt to hide, if anybody wants to spy on me in me tent they are welcome if they are that interested, if it prevents crime, why not?

If you've done nowt wrong, you've nowt to fear, etc, etc.

I don't think I do "just have to accept it" actually, or that anyone should. This so-called `free country' of ours is becoming worryingly more & more `Big Brother' at a quite alarming rate. I refer of course to Orwell's astute masterpeice not the mindless TV `entertainment' of same name... 17

You might not care Art, but I along with many others actually value my privacy & believe I have a right to it. Nobody is welcome to spy on me. I have nothing to hide either - I just don't like being WATCHED. 17 17

There are many people who did nothing wrong - & have been banged up for it too. Nowadays you have a great deal to fear, innocent or not. It frightens the hell out of me, & a lot of other innocent law-abiding people too. As Viggo says though - you must be joking...  17 17 17

Hi. Where I work most of the site is covered by CCTV - and a sophisticated system too. The quality is excellent and it is possible to zoom in to virtually any corner of a big site. However, remember that to be effective it has to be monitored 24 hours a day. That probably means at least five members of staff who would all have to be paid. Without this staffing all you can do is to have a wide-angle picture of the whole site which would not provide evidential quality pictures. Surely friendly neighbours and good management are the best deterrents on a site.

Pete

I think the TV program that  was shown tonight said it all. The most cameras per head in the civilised world. End result, the highest crime rate in Europe. Cameras do not stop crime, they just record it and usually in poor quality.

I got the impression that it cut down on crime but crime increased in areas where there were no cameras.  Perhaps if they brought back the cane it may help.  Also prison should be a prison and not a cushy relaxation centre, i.e. take away TVs, games etc and send them out in work parties to do real work!

exactly...deal with the root cause ,weed the scum out and deal with them properly instead of pandering to them.until criminals are dealt with and there is a deterrent nothing will ever change.

too damn soft in this country, simple as that
