Auction prices have gone up a lot since a low in late 2008, I missed an absolute bargain so I know!

Currently there are two auctions a month at Measham and one generally has more choice than the other.
It is not true to say they are all rubbish, some are, but a lot of them are Black Horse snatch backs so nothing wrong with them.

There is no bar on anyone going and buying if you register first so they know you have funds to pay.
The main problem infact is 'private punters' they sometimes bid silly money and drive the prices well up, often above retail!!

Take an oldish and really scruffy Swift I watched sell, it went well over the odds when three punters all decided it was 'the' one they might afford!!
I forget but around 94 4B and it went well over 3k, the previous sold van next to it was far younger, perfect and better spec and had just sold for just over half what these silly buggers ended up bidding??

We all stood there looking at each other mesmerised by it all

The thing with the auctions is to do your homework first. What am I looking for? How much is it worth (in £s)? How much am I prepared to bid? And then stick to it. Don't get carried away with the just another £50, etc. Set a limit and stick to it. Have been to the odd one over the years and seen some absolute rubbish go for far more than better stuff from a dealer. Mostly by people getting carried away. See above.

It can often be the same on ebay - punters get carried away and pay over the odds.

Demand for caravans has gone up massively so if they are unsold by traders they must be rough.I chased loads lasst Autumn for my son and even damp vans were going fast.

As arc systems said above they are not all ex dealer. Many are ex finance and may well be good vans.
