We wouldn't be without our tank, but we always tow with it empty.  The dynamics of moving liquids can make life a bit too exciting - just ask any tanker driver.

It's not the weight, it's the harmonics of the water's movement.

I was thinkingf about this - if you travel with a water tank completely full, then surely the water cannot move, as it's completely full.  So, surely this would not affect stability at all.   Half full, though, would be tricky presumably?   Do you know if this is actually the case, or is there something I've missed?

Even if the tank is not "completely full", I cannot compare the 23 litres of my inboard tank the the hundreds or thousands of litres that a tanker is going to carry.

If we set off to wildcamp, we are carrying 23 litres in the inboard tank, 23 litres in the outboard tank but carried inboard on the floor oposite the inboard tank. And 10 litres in the Loo Cistern. 56 litres in all. Hardly a noticeable amount unless I am towing round corners at a 100+mph.

We have certainly not noticed any difference between towing with or without water in the tanks.

>>> should this extra 56 kg of water be factored into the mptlm ?  <<<

The delivered weight of my van is 703Kg. The max weight it can be is 1000Kg.

With 297Kg to play with, I aint too bothered about 56Kg of water as long as it is properly stowed.

didnt know what margin you had available, some vans are quite tight and 56kg could in some circumstances cause a van to be overweight as you probably know anyway

If you read the Instruction manual (sorry, I know we're not supposed to do that) it gives you the pipe/valve layout used in the Senator, for charging the internal tank with the on-board pump. Theres one valve omitted on the Peggy.

Lifting the internal tank back into the locker is no problem when its full, its the damned hose that gets in the way. Best to leave the hose out, its gives a clear lift, and stick the hose in from the top, through the seat locker on top.

Question though: if you put your aquaroll on a stand outside the van: wouldn't it syphon in by itself? The van has check valves to prevent the system draining, but nothing to prevent the system syphoning inwards? Then it would be cheap, and with careful selection of levels, self-levelling. Any thoughts anyone?

Many thanks for that Maurice. I look forward to more information, as it would be a welcome addition to our newish van when we get it.
