I do hope as many members as possible complete the survey, afterall its no use complaining on here about the booking system or indeed praising it unless you are prepared to let the Club know your views. One comment I made was that the Club is not very open about providing satistical information about such things as no shows and cancellations and I often feel that it is this lack of information that causes a lot of the opinions and misinformation often posted of forums. One option I liked in the survey and one I have often mentioned in such debates is the possibility of holding a credit/debit card number which would be debited with one nights site fees if they were a no show or cancelled within 48 hours of arrival. Be interesting to see what others make of that idea in when the Club report back the findings of the survey.
I can't add to the survey cos I did not rejoin due to the alleged block booking of weekends. Got fed up with not being able to book a full week for that reason. If they have a change of policy I will probably rejoin.

I'm quite happy with things as they are and have completed the survey to that effect.
It will be interesting to see if this is the majority view, which it could well be. In the past the Club seems to have gone along with the silent majority and perhaps the survey will just prove they were right to do so!
I am mostly happy with the way things are at the moment. We have learned to get in early and book, but with that I have also booked my holidays with work. I realised last year that it is very difficult to book sites that are poular for weekends. We tried and failed several times to book for example Rowntree at York. I have used the booking system a lot and I have never failed to show. To me that is the height of bad manners. Which is why I have indicated that the club should hold Debit card details and if you fail to show then you should pay in full for the first night. This would allow the site to put the rest of your nights back on the market. I understand thouh that the club has few no shows. Which is good.
Incidentally I went on the booking site on the 2nd December waited and eventually got booked for all my choices for 2010. I had backup choices wich I did not use. A coupleof days after I decided to book a couple more one of which was Rowntree in October and I was able to do so. So it can't be booked up every weekend from day one as someone else stated.
i like the system. if a site shows full then i try somewhere else. but i have always been able to get the sites i want even if i keep trying some one always cancels and then i fill the place.
i have lost a lot of money due to having to cancel sites so i much prefere this way i am not going to complain.
i am not lucky enough to be able to go away weekends but im sure there is space somewhere.

Agreed !
We've lost a few £25 deposits recently with the C&CC due to the weather and sickness.
I agree with David on the credit card idea and I have no objection to anybody booking as many sites as they wish provided they pay a small deposit ie first night which can be made refundable within an XX amount of days time scale and can be capped or rolled over, but not refundable for no shows or because the weather forcast is'nt to good, and hopefully this could make it a little easier to book a full weeks holiday on many CC sites. One of the things that worried me a little with the survey was the reference to ' None refundable deposits ' I dont think we should go down that particular 'one rule fits all' road. Anyway thats my tuppence worth.

Perhaps holding credit card details, and only charging if 5-7 days notice is not given, may be the answer.
This would encourage people to notify the club of the cancellation, and free up the booking for someone else.
This may need to be coupled with some limit on the number of bookings that can be held at one time, to avoid block bookings followed by block cancelations.
I would not object to deposits, as I still feel that if I wish to reserve something, a deposit shows my determination to honour the booking.

Jim
I agree with David re: debit card to hold booking. Last summer we were unable to get a full week at 2 sites in Northumberland due to weekend bookings. I don't object to weekend bookings only but holding with a deposit would deter people who just don't show up.
just done the survey,i dont have any trouble with the caravan club systerm as it is now , definally dont agree with the none refundable deposit bit either
it proves what a farce the booking system is.just back from a weekend at clumber park which was allegedly fully booked for this weekend (certainly at 11am friday the website suggested so) . we counted 12 hardstanding pitches empty on saturday morning.
wonder how many bothered to ring the site to cancel ???
First must point out that I'm not a CC member but I wonder why some CC members object to paying a deposit but would be happy to have their card details stored (something that is strongly frowned upon under PCI guidelines) to allow charging of no-shows or cancellations. If you pay a deposit and turn up you lose nothing, if you don't turn up you just lose your deposit - what is the difference (apart from the obvious less to pay from your holiday money with a deposit paid.

Its a subject that has been discussed at length on here. I suspect the majority of Club members would prefer not to pay a deposit and of course there are disadvantages with them as well. I would list these as slowing down the booking process because you would have to key in extra information and then get the transaction authorised. At peak time even the new system has difficulty coping at the moment. Then there could be the extra administration of making refunds on cancellations some distance from the arrival date so its not as easy a decision as one would imagine. I think what most people who support deposits would hope is that it would provide better availability because members would be less inclined to spend a few hundred pound booking for the whole year. Its all very well saying its standard proceedure elsewhere but its something the Club would have to introduce as a new thing and there would be a cost involved, which may or may not be covered by lost deposits!
