There are a lot of people who make appointments and then don't bother turning up, So you can't really expect somebody to hold on to a van when they have a willing buyer at the door. 1st come 1st served basis. At least you got a phone call informing you that they'd sold it.

I made an appoitntment to view a trailer tent. When we got to the house no-one answered the door and there was no sign of the trailer, so I phoned them while we were there - no answer.
When we got home there was a message on our answerphone (call was made after I'd phoned them from their doorstep) to say theyd sold it & there was lots of laughter in the background & the woman speaking had trouble getting her words out. Oh yes, very funny, thanks for wasting our time!! Thankfully we got a folding camper for £200 less than they wanted for their trailertent, which suits us so well so we were the winners.
believe it or not the main dealers can be just as heartless.at the one near us we found the caravan of our dreams a 500/5 bailey after many months of searching and tied of looking at vans.with a perfect price and layout on the cards we said to the salesman i think we will buy will you give us one hour to let the rest of our family see it before we pay out £8000? yes no problem he said.when we arrived back in less than one hour there was a sold sign on the van,bit cheeky i thought as we had not signed up.he just laughed and shrugged his shoulders saying i have sold it to someone else is there anything else you would like to see? ye right.i would not buy a pair of socks from him now.when we sold our van i did tell the people on the phone that the first to arrive with all the cash will buy the caravan for the simple reason we have been let down in past by people paying deposits and then not wanting to buy meaning you need to re-advertise.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Sorry but i thought threads are there to read and leave comments, and if you read this one all the way through i got the feeling the person who started it had been MOANING, when the sellers did all they could to contact them to say the van was sold. It's a free world!!!

As i mentioned earlier, put a wanted ad in your local press. It saves the hassle of racing to view and beat everyone else to it.We did that when looking for our very first van.The irony of it was,the very same night we put a wanted ad in our paper, directly under our ad there was a van for sale so what did we do?Having no replies from our ad(the paper had only come out 2 hours earlier) we raced to view this so called bargain. The woman who was selling it told us that others were coming to view within minutes of us arriving, so bingo!!we bought the van.It was the biggest waste of money we had ever seen, totally rotten. The minute i got home i happened to check our messages. There was 11 missed calls and the phone never stopped ringing for 2 solid days re our ad.We were too hasty. They got us once but never again.

Thank you Dreadnought. We have placed several "wanted" ads about a few days ago now, however, we have not had one reply, this is dispite saying we have upto £2000 cash available for the right van, we dont think we are asking too much, all we have asked for is min age '92, 4/5 berth and no damp, leak or soft spots. We would have liked at least one reply.
Would it also be worth letting a couple of dealers know what you're looking for so they can contact you when they get something in that may be suitable? Don't know if caravan dealers will do this but it worked for us with car dealers a couple of months ago.

We have enquired at 3 we know, 2 - Highbridge, and Taunton Caravan Centre, have said that with our budget they only supply DIY vans and are really only suitable for traders to buy of them and do them up for resale. The 3rd is not local to us and they have said they would not hold any vans, first come first served, which is fair enough as we can only go weekends due to husband working.
