I wish I had less to worry about for this to get under my skin.
I think the probelm is that our privacy is being eroded bit by bit. You can't go to many places now that you are not being watched. Privacy is s fundemental right and unless we stand up for it we will loose it. Big brother is watching us and I , for one, object!
I think it's great, we've been checking out areas we were thinking of visiting to see if we like them or not. I don't mind our house & car being on there either, loads of people see it every day. I saw the google car taking the pictures and stuck my head out of the door because I wanted to be on it!
personally i think its a great idea more help for me if trying to take the truck to an unfamiliar address i can look at the entrance to the yard etc also just going to look at the site in wales we are off too in three weeks already know the one in portsoy scotland so two weeks today here i come roll on
They cover number plates but I can easily identify many of the cars and vans etc seen on the road. My son for instance has a van with sign writing on it, but as a one man band company there is only one van like it.
However, no-one really knows the date the pictures were taken and if you're that worried about being seen somewhere, don't do it! Behave yourself!
The only response I got from the wife was "told you before, that front door needs re-painting". If you have the image of your home removed does it eliminate the entire 360 degree picture, or just your home? Surely if a ner-do-well is looking at your house, or rather, where your house should be, out of the millions there are, would he not think hmm! I wonder what they've got to hide?
Pete.
------------- Don't panic!
Hit it with a pointed stick!
Nostalgia's not what it used to be.
What's the big deal with vehicles being identifiable on google anyway. In case you hadn't noticed, the numberplate is visible to the general public, not just outside your home, but even while you are driving the vehicle. Hardly a security risk. Even if you were out when the photo was taken, even the dumbest of criminals can work out that it's not a live video stream, surely? Now if you know where to look, there are a number of live video streams overlooking residential areas on the internet. Would have thought these were much more of an interest to the criminal element.
I think its great.A subject like this is always going to get a divided opinion but unless you have the crown jewels in your window or a Van Gogh clearly on show i dont think it will be much use to a thief. If say a thief is going to steal a caravan,i can't see them sitting for hours infront of a pc slowly advancing the camera down the road to try and spot the desired caravan. They will more likely cruising round in a car casing which vans or house looks like an easy target

I like it in a way but, I think it can be intrusive, especially if there are no nets/blinds up and the camera (whatever it is) is facing straight onto it. Hope no one was in the nuddy. I can see into my brother-in-laws living room and see the tv on (even though I couldn't tell you what was playing) and he has blinds up.
I await with baited breath the 1st post moaning about a caravan being stolen and found trashed and the culprit being stood in front of the judge stating he found it on streetmap and thought it was easy pickings.
------------- Albino, Can"t say fairer than that !
My brother's really narked because his underpants were on the rotary dryer when the Google camera came - now the whole world can see them. SIL thinks they should have knocked on the door and asked if there was any tidying she wanted to do before the camera rolled. She's mortified that the washing is on view.
Anyone found their car/caravan in two or more places yet (if you see what I mean).
As for the date of the pictures I suppose it varies but when I was looking for Taybarns near Sheffield before we went at lunchtime I noticed that on Google pics a nearby Shell garage had unleaded for 105.9p When was that? It was 116.9 today.
Incidentally Taybarns.com is a great place for a buffet meal. Not many of them yet but brilliant value. Even better if you're over 60. Unlimited food for £3.99. sorry that's off topic but my excuse is that I found where to go on the Google site.
