I wonder how many would actually pay 10% maybe 15% extra on the price of a van to have it arrive in pristine condition, with no chance of it having to be returned for any problems no matter how trivial?

Bailey can't afford to do that simply because they are afraid of losing sales to their competitors so they will put up with the handful of bad ones and the possibility of bad publicity they may receive ("who believes it anyway if it doesn't happen to them?")

Anyone know if their production rate is still the same as it was for the Ranger (one every two hours - 20 a week per assembly line)?

Had our first serious outing in our Peggy 514 last weekend and we're very happy with ours. It's not perfect (but then what is in this world!!) but it's a better van than our 6-berth Elddis Crusader Superstorm was. We love:

  • the spacious end washroom/toilet
  • having a shower you can actually move around in
  • having a heating system that works and doesn't get through a 7kg bottle of gas a day in cold weather
  • having a gas cooker that works and doesn't have to be relit every 5 minutes for the first half hour
  • the spacious fridge
  • the extra insulation that keeps the van warmer (and quieter)
  • having more storage space than in our old 6-berth van!
  • having a radio that's connected to the FM side of the Status aerial via the amplifier (meaning I don't have to go outside to extend a silly antenna bolted to the side of the van like an afterthought – and also remember to retract it!)
  • being able to move the van by pushing it!

We don't like:

  • the very heavy table that isn't quite high enough and has silly fold-up sides (that I'm sure will be the first thing to break)
  • the table again – it's not restrained sufficiently and forced the locker door open and slid out during the journey home (it damaged a door hinge but I'll sort that and I'll fit a restraint device to it next time out)

errrmmmm - that's it really. We have one fault that I've reported to our dealer (I've had to take the batteries out of the PIR fitted to the alarm system as it sets the alarm off for no reason) but overall, we love our Peggy.

We  collected ours last weekend,(534) are going to try it this weekend at a local site, prior to Easter outing.

We swa[pped a S7 Pageant for it, because we liked the layout and the features. Ours had been well prepped by the dealer and I have not found anything wrong yet!

We did spend some time removing all the plastic sheet from the floor as it will trap moisture, then wiped off a few bits of dust etc.

Like previous Baileys there is excess mastic but most of it wiped off. We also gave the paintwork acoat of silicon polish.

Dislikes-the three separate front lockers, as can't get the waste master in! ( Put it in the underbed wet locker).

Will probably remove leave the water tank out in the summer, but it will be useful in winter.

Like the LED awning light, pull out seat arrangement! External BBQ gas point and 240V outlet.

We ordered the chest of drawers which has useful pull out table top on it.

This is 4th Bailey over many years, all purchased from the same dealer, none have had any major faults, so I hope this one is the same.

We are disappointed rather than angry over our Peggy 554, mainly because of niggly unnecesarry errors in the manufacture and handover (what did I pay good money for a PDI for I dont know) I have spoken to two other Peggy owners and they were displeased too.

I think Bailey have been more successful than they expected and are literally just getting them out of the door irrespective of the condition, and as previous posts have said, they sell enough to ignore any negative publicity, and obviously dont have to employ at Quality Assurance staff!.

We bought the Peggy on the strength of the construction method which we are happy with, but the overall quality is not up to the previous Pageant we had, with hindsight we should of probably waited until the hype had subsided.

they are banging out 40 shoddy examples a day apparently.

i suggest anyone with pegasus problems do as we do , contact nigel donnely at practical caravan magazine . he was very interested in our story and rang Bailey on our behalf.

maybe Bailey might get their butts into gear if they know the caravan press is on their case !!

with all due respect , that is crap !!

we have never had a new caravan until this one , the newest we have had was 4 year old. never had a new car or remotely new car either , 5 years + when we get them.

we bought the Pegasus because we liked it ,we could afford it , we could tow it, it was the right layout and it should last our caravanning lifetime.

nothing to do with being  "a want one and want it now type !!!!!!!!"

Yes but other caravans have their showers in the bathroom - they don't utilise the whole van...
