I have been with Green Flag (Mayday) through the C.C. for quite a few years. My VW also has breakdown cover as part of the manufacturer's service and maintenance warranty. In the event of a breakdown, they would move the van to a place of safety. I am not certain what a "place of safety" actually means so, if solo I would call out VW (associated with RAC) and, if towing, I would call out Green flag.
David, you may well be correct in thinking that your RAC cover through Toyota will not cover you for a puncture on the caravan. I am sure that membership of RAC Arrival, through the C&CC would give you that service, but if you are not in that particular scheme, I would check very carefully.

Have got car insurance and Breakdown cover with the co-op. I pick a new van up next week. I thought I would ask what would happen should I breakdown and need to be towed/transported with a caravan. Further investigation by the insurance team with their breakdown agent revealed it would be towed as long as it does not exceed 5.1mts. That rules me out then. Shall have to look at others when this cover runs out. Beware!!
i did not know that as i am with the co-op had better get different cover
The RAC gave me a gold warranty when I bought my missus a 2nd hand Cooper S, everything covered for 3 months. Soon found out the AC wasn't working, local garage found problem , sent RAC out and they buried there head 6ft deep into the sand. Denied all knowledge etc... got fed up and paid local garage £100 to fix. There loss just signed up for mayday with green flag and will never recommend them too anyone!
Standard breakdown cover (not thru CC or C&CC) will usually cover your caravan to be recovered in the event of a breakdown on your car (depending on weights) but if it's the caravan that has a problem it won't be covered as the car is roadworthy & that's where the cover is.
