How lucky you are having a grand child. Our eldest two have both got a dog instead. When our eldest got married last year we thought, at last, but no, they got a puppy instead. I suppose as they are both teachers they've had enough of kids. Our youngest is 20 so it all rests on him now I suppose.
Anyway, have a great time. I always think its great when grandparents take the kids away and play with them. It's what grans and gramps are for.
hay dont be put off by the puppy our daughter got a puppy too, the dog is now 2 and 1/2 yrs old and is the biggest baby in the house, so all could be answered soon and you never know she may say your going to be grandparents,
GOOD LUCK
and when it does happen i hope your as happy as we are, coz its great, i hate it when he goes home lol bless him

Also, take plenty of books to read and toys to play with, a TV is a good to have in wet weather I think.
Nothing better on a nice day than a beach, a child, a bucket and a spade - or a little fishing net! Mine were happy all day long just playing on the sand when they were little, whilst I sat and read a book! Peace, perfect peace! And the fresh air just tired them out and they slept really well.
Took our little boy caravaning last august he was 9 days old we just wanted to get away and for a few days and relax, no probs just be well prepared and youll be fine.
Our grandson is is about 21 months and this will be his first time in a caravan. Don't actually know what the inside of the caravan is like and concerned he might fall out of the bed.
Ant tips?
------------- Whoever said "A change is as good as a rest" NEVER went camping with children

Our grandson had his first trip with us recently, first time in a bed for him. We just made up his bed on the rear seat and put a couple of backrest cushions on the floor in case he fell out. He didn't fall out and loved being in the caravan. Away with him again in a couple of weeks :)
Our three grandchildren started young at 10 weeks, 6 weeks and the youngest made his first trip two weeks ago at the ripe old ago of 4 weeks, the middle child is now 21/2 and a veteran caravanner who has her own jobs 'helping' daddy fill the water butt.
My youngest is now five and has been caravanning since he was 1. All I will say is the hardest thing for us, was the early starts as he would wake at stupid o'clock(5.30) and no amount of coaxing or cajoling would get him back to bed! Then trying to keep him quiet when the rest if the site was still asleep and he just wanted to get on with the outdoor entertainment! He loves caravanning- as do all 3 of my children. The advice about purchasing an all in one rain suit is good. I have a photo of my son sitting in a large puddle on a rally field!! Lots of books, simple toys, like cars, and crafts and a bottomless supply of his, snacks were our essentials. As for bed safety, we bought two wooden bed guards from IKEA which attached screwlessly to the bed frame. One on top of the other and which prevented him rolling out.
We are in the same position as the OP. First and only grandchild will be 3 in October. We take him camping (in caravan) some weekends. The hardest thing for us are the long days. He wakes and is in playful mode from the crack of dawn and is on the go constantly till about 9 at night. So there is no break for us on those weekends.
The simple things help though. A short walk to the toilet block or small on-site shop usually takes 2 minutes. With him it can take an hour. We splash in puddles, he's usually got a stick which pokes at all manners of stuff -leafs, stones, mud etc. a couple of these trips fill a day lol. Even better if you have dishes or pots to wash at washing-up area (we make a point of it when he's with us). We try and do as much walking with him as possible, tires him out and fills the time. We go hunting for bears in the woods, Papa secretly throws stones into the bushes and causes all sort of excitement. A dvd at night to relax him before bed - almost the only time we we have the tv on in caravan.
As previously said a waterproof all-in-one and wellies essential. He plays out in all weather. And our fix-it-all strategy? We let him eat whatever he wants
