We know what you mean about the hemmed in feeling with a fixed bed and a the door closed.
Do all island beds have the washroom split in the centre of the van? To us that makes a thin corridor which darkens the van.
While at the NEC, the first fixed bed van that felt fully open was the Pegasus 524 (the OH even wants to slide the spice rack away to open it up even more!!!) We pick ours up next month.
Our current 6 birth has an end bedroom so we feel the fixed bed is more open than the 6 birth especially as we currently have the bathroom and the wardrobe opposite the kitchen.
I think Jonic do cut off corner duvets as well as the sheets for the ultimate experience.

thanks for all the replies,,,,seems its more of a common problem than i first thought. Must admit i wont leave home without straightening the bed,,,,,does everyone love their fixed beds ??? i dont regret swopping the 6 berth back bunks as the bunks were a dumping ground so the whole area was a waste, i have bought a 5ft long bolster pillow which now holds the throw on the bed,,,,getting somewhere now !!!

Using a sleeping bag seems to me to negate one of the advantages of the fixed bed.....namely the ability to easily use a bottom sheet and a duvet cover, which are much easier to wash than a sleeping bag.
As we take long trips, I would not fancy going that long without changing/washing the bedding.
On our (offside) fixed bed we use a stretchy fitted sheet and a king size duvet. The duvet I either fold under at the edges to fit the matress, or for good bed airing I fold it in half then in 3 and lay it at the bottom of the bed.

Sold our fixed bed as we felt it took up too much space.Obviously loved the comfort of falling into bed without the hassle of making it up but our end bathroom 2 berth feels much roomier. Also don't need asbig a car to pull it.

Oh dear. We would give up caravanning if we had to make up the bed every night!

We don't tuck our duvet in under the matress, but we tuck it under itself and it looks fine.
To the person who leaves their bedroom door open - well done! You obviously live in a more organised state than us. Whenever we have visitors, the first thing we do is make sure all the bedroom doors are absolutely firmly shut. If I could actually lock them....... ![](https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/forum_images/smiley36.gif)
