My mate has used it for the last 4-5 years, and he is pedantic about his 'van.

Now he has a new 'van, and still uses the stuff on his new 'van. Believe me, if my mate Nick continues to rub it on his 'van, it does no damage.

He also claims that thick grime is also no problem: apparently when the US Airforce designed the stuff for cleaning the jet planes in the desert, they designed it to encapsulate the grime, reasy to rub away.

As an engineer, I never believed it, in fact I physically fought a guy off who tried to apply it to my Shogun some years ago,  but will be taking some to Spain with me this year.

We have a problem here.  It is difficult to bring our van home to wash and our storage facility (the only gold CASSoa site locally, and gold CASSoa is stipulated by my insurers) does not have washing facilities.

Last week I bought a pack of Caravan 'onedrywash' from the Black Horse Farm CC site at Densole, Kent.   Managed to do the whole van, bit at a time over the week we were there.  It seemed excellent stuff, to me - although on the expensive side.  One of the things I liked was, I could do one little bit one day, and another bit another day etc, therefore alleviating the feeling that I had done a good days work cleaning the whole thing in one.  The last thing I did after we had got hitched up ready to come home was to but another box to bring home.  It cut thought black streakes better than a sword through butter!

After reading through this thread, I have spoken to the manufacturer, who have confirmed that, after extensive testing, the product does not cause scratching.  They also confirmed that although the stuff is marketed in different packets e.g. motorhome, caravan, car, etc., (they did this for marketing reasons), it is actually the same product so refils can be bought at a cheaper price than the 'complete pack'.  They do produce a 'hibernation' pack which is different, and should be used immediately prior to winter storeage.

Apparently if you wax/polish a vehicle, it generally remains effective for about 28 days.  The polish in the 'onedrywash' product is less effective, but the logic is that generally people do not wax after every wash, but if you use the dry wash, the waxing is part of the procedure.

'Onedrywash' apparently is also going to be repackaged by the major companies who provide 'scotchguard/paintseal' type protection for vans.  They are going to be selling it as their recommended cleaning process.

P.S. I don't have any connection with the 'onedrywash' company, but have been impressed by using their product.  Just thought I would find out a bit more about them.

I hera what you are saying, but I think the point they are trying to make is Friction + dirt which is encapsulated and suspended in the cleaning liquid = no scratch.

I'm only going by my use of the product, and from the conversation I had on the 'phone.  Also I suspect by dunking a sponge in water which will eventually contain particles of dust and dirt, will/could possibly still produce scratching on a painted surface when re-applied.  I suppose in reality any method will provide scratching to some extent, even if you rub a clean finger across a painted surface?  After saying that, I readily admit that my knowledge of physics is fairly minuscule.  They say they have done the research and I personally do not have the detailed expertise to challenge this, and after using the product, I have to say I am impressed.

Why not give it a try and see how you get on?

Best wishes

David, you're a star! Thank you for doing all that research, which reiterates what they say on the shopping channel (same product but a different make).

As mentioned previously by another poster, one of the reasons to why you cannot see the scratches easily as the product has fillers, that will fill the scratches and make them very hard to spot. For a quick detail it maybe a suitable product.
Also a sponge is one of the worst things to use on paint work, what you want is a woolly wash mitt :)

This is what I like about forums, having an adult discussion :)

Glad we agree on the sponge at any rate CandP.    However, it doesn't much look like we're going to agree completely on on the 'onedrywash' product.  I suppose time will tell.... or not!  Do you have any evidence to support the claim that the product has fillers, or is that just how you feel.  I'll ring them up and ask them if you think it might help?

Best wishes

I would advise anyone taking Drywash to use any place where it is really hot, DON'T. The first few years we were in the Dordogne and it worked great, last year in the Ardeche where it was a lot warmer it was a nightmare to use. It bakes onto the bodywork and is hard to get off, and even when you think it is all off, next time you look you will see a bit that isn't. This was applied fairly early morning and under the shade of a tree.

I have to laugh at the advert for it in my camping magazine with the guy sitting by the side of the road in some arid land waiting to clean your car and unit, no chance.

Sponge, shampoo and chamois for me this year, oh and the fire bucket.

Where were you pitched, Zinnia?  You weren't the folk opposite us were you? ........with the Outdoor Revolution porch awning and went the day before us?  It was a lovely week though - we were really lucky with the weather.

Don't know whereabouts in Staffordshire you are, Ian, but they've got it in at Jacksons (Arley) ay £11.99 for the complete kit.   If you have an Autoglass place near by, they might have some in stock.  Caravan Club Sites also sometimes stock them, so you might find one close by.  I don't think Tamworth Camping Stock it - there's nothing on their website and they're closed on Wednesdays.

Depending where you are you could also try the following, but ring them up to check first:

Burton Trailer Centre,167 Burton Road, Branston, Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 3DR. Tel: 01283 544134

Lowe & Rhodes Leisure, Victoria Road, Fenton, Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire,  ST4 2HU.  Tel: 01782 212871

Moorland Leisure,  Leek New Road (A53), Milton, Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire,  ST2 2EF.  Tel: 01782 538853

Sedgley Caravan Acc, UK Garage, Bilston Street, Sedgley, Staffordshire,  DY3 1JB.
Tel: 01902 885622

Uttoxeter Racecourse, Caravan Club Site, Wood Lane, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire,  ST14 8BD.  Tel: 01889 564172

There are also places in the West Midlands, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Cheshire, which just may be closer, depending on where you live.

I assume you've checked under "Retailers" on the web site in your original post? You can check by county.
