Sleeping bags are all very well for shorter trips, when you can wash them every so often inbetween trips, but when you do longer trips a sheet and duvet cover are much easier to deal with to keep the bedding fresh.

I like a down duvet on top, but we bought a double hollow fibre duvet and put it in an old duvet cover for lying on. Its very comfortable and hardly moves at all during the night, and its much easier to make the bed up, just fling it over the cushions. Easy to wash the covers after each trip.

We have two single size 1" memory foam toppers with sheets that zip on. They roll up quite small, don't move in the night and add extra comfort (would probably have gone for thicker foam if the bed had been uncomfortable to start with). They have removed all the stress from the bed making up process. The sheets just zip off for washing.

We do this too, although our sheets use poppers at the bottom. On a morning the topper and the duvet gets rolled up, a couple of straps go round it,and it drops into the full width box at the front of the van along with the pillows. Could not be easier.

Where do you find sheets with zips or poppers?  I like the idea of the memory foam but didn't fancy having to bother with tucking a sheet in either.  On holiday I like to do the easiest way for everything!!!

we use a fitted sheet on a topper from Ikea. It's great as the elastic keeps it in place on the topper and then we just roll the whole lot(duvet and all)together and put it on one of the kids fixed bunks during the day

We use one heavy duvet and one light duvet. That way, if it's cold, the light one acts as an under-sheet and we snuggle under the heavy one. If it's warm, obviously, it's the other way round.

Seems to work!

I expect you can buy washable covers for the toppers, or you could make your own very easily. Just like a duvet cover really. Or you could do a "giant pillowcase" type thing if you cannot do zips or poppers.

We use three (yes 3) opened sleeping bags - one we use as a bottom sheet (which helps with any dips in upholstery!) and depending on time of year we have other two for top use.    Gave up on duvets - far too much bother, same with sheets etc!    So now much easier!

We have two 2" single memory foam mattress toppers with zip off jersey covers pushed together
And a king size duvet on top of us, just roll them up in the morning and put them in the under bed locker, very comfortable.

jenifern, Not good, or like, doing anything with a needle and cotton so I opt out of doing my own.  From your posts on forum I imagine you are very capable in that department.

Sue, where did you get the memory foam with zip off covers please?

Cheers

Carol

I got ours from Raskelf, not cheap but very good and they were the right size. I have heard of others getting something similar from eBay but I couldn't find the size I wanted with the sheets.

Use a slightly larger duvet cover, and a bit of sewing. Incidentally, turn the topper over and you have a clean sheet.

well-what a response!  thank you very much for all your tips-think we are going to try the duvet underneath and duvet on top option.  for some reason-in response to those of you who said I should do it myself:) my OH sees making the bed up as part of his caravanning duties!  I HAVE offered to do it-honestly!

We are aged 64 and 74, retired, and we try to get away for a few months at a time in the off-peak season.  We use the ACSI card and find it really good.  As we are on a very small budget, we don't each much for the rest of the year to keep costs down. LOL!

thanks again to you all, regards, carmel
