Its strange how folk who earn £30-£40kpa sitting in an office begrudge paying a tradesman a reasonable rate for a job. The workshop equipped with specialist equipment will charge the rate for the job. The people it employs won't be earning £75ph, they will be earning £10ph.

If a self employed mobile mechanic who has a van to run ain't taking £1000pw he might as well be working for somebody else.

Its possible the repair shops are quoting high at this time of yr because they don't want the extra work. Their work has to be done to an 'as new' standard & it would block up their workshop at a time when they are stacked back with service work. I'm sure a competant home handyman could do a perfectly adequate repair job on the caravan but it would not be to the standard required by the trade.

this is my take on it tbh they dont want to do the repair.
however having spoke with the loss adjuster again toda and had a lengthy chat,he admits even if the labour had been a lot lower the van would still have been a write off.quite simply they said the main insurers dont like putting older accident damaged vans back on the road.
defo cannot buy it back either
