My first taste of caravans was late 1959/1960 in a pemberton static at Palins caravan site at Abergele in N. Wales, It's still there as we passed it on our way back from a place i cant spell and took my OH and son to see, the van had gas mantles and you had to empty the bucket under the sink everytime you used the bowl to wash up, the gas man came round twice a day to see if anyone needed a new bottle and the double bed dropped out of the wall and i would'nt have swapped it for the world.

In 1958 Mum, Dad, Uncle, big brother and me went on the the overnight boat from Liverpool to Dublin and collected a hired Morris Oxford and a Caravan which I believe was a Sprite. I remember it having the sloping roof at the front just the same as a musketeer. I was thrilled beyond belief when I saw what was waiting for us, I had never been in a caravan before. We went all around Southern Ireland and had a wonderful holiday.
I went back to Ireland about 15 years ago and tried to re-trace the steps. The only place that I found for certain that we had been to was Westport, but I am sure that I crossed my Dads tyre tracks more than once.
