are the old Absorbsion fridges better than the newer ones ??
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
i would say dont buy one old or new. compressor compressor not absorbsion .
or look for an easycool evaporation cool box ,not a fridge but keeps food cool ,cup of water a day .2 cups when in africa . hotter the temp the cooler the box ,it works . or put your milk in a bowl of water with a damp cloth covering it.
worked for our granma,s

Those cool boxes are very good but you do need a dry heat for them to work properly - hence, they are good in Africa and a waste of time in Pickering
The old absorption fridges were even worse than the new ones. You used to see people rolling pencils, coins and even a ball around on their tables trying to get the van level. If you didn't do that the fridge didn't work: 5 degrees off vertical was enough for the efficiency to fall off dramatically.
Compressor fridges are designed to work in Yachts... need one say any more?
I got a fan kit from Milenco and fitted ti inside the top grill of the fridge(outside). It is two little fans that take all the heat from the back of the fridge and blow it out thus allowing the air to circulate. They cost me 20 quid and work a treat. Was in the south of France two years ago and no prob.I also have a small table top fridge for the awning 220v and I put a fan on top of this to take the warm air from the back of the fridge, also works vwry well.
I used to have a fan fitted to one of our vans - it was a help in Franc ein August! However we found that turning up the fridge at night and then DOWN to about 3 or 4 during the day worked quite well. There is a bit of logic in this madness - in that the higher settings produce more heat in the fridge cavity and in turm this makes the fridge interior warmer, also make sure that the frige isn't too full as it needs air flow to work efficiently inside ( as well as outside.) A friend has fitted a computer cpu fan to his and it works a treat.
