Creaking and groaning is a common problem normally coused through overtightening, the nly answere is to strip it down. clean all metal surphaces with emmery, and replace with new friction pads. tighten to about 41/2 stone, befor arm moves Iused bathroom scales. not the best but they were at hand (don,t let the wife see this or dinners in the dog

When I had the blade type stabiliser I used to wet the friction pads a little, it used to quieten them. Not sure if it did them any harm or lessened the effectiveness, but they get wet if towing in the rain.
It's best to strip and clean them every so often but make sure they are properly set up again.

why does my alkohitch creak and groan like mad then?i cant grease or do anything with that can i?
If you clean your tow ball and the hitch with white spirit and check the pads inside aren't glazed then it won't groan anymore. If the pads are glazed rough them up with emery paper or buy some more.
I had this problem and have just done a 1000 miles in France without a sound. Whatever you do don't lubricate it!!!
