Get real... You don't really think they were driving them from Fleet Services to Cornwall?
It was obviously fabricated for TV and not a serious study of motorhome assembly. It was pretty obvious that they were not being driven from the point they arrived at the Fleet Services. How did they get to Fleet without falling apart?
Clarksons vehicle was built on the base vehicle with the softest suspension they could find to make it wobble about as much as possible. On the plus side, it does show what happens if you have too much weight high up, so there was something to be learnt from it, even if it is only how not to do it.
They were evidently transported by lorry, with stunt drivers used on closed sections of road used for the filming.
Have to say that Hammonds idea of a sectional building was conceptually pretty good... It's a pity he took it to such extreme lengths rather than look at ways of making it work. It's certainly feasable to have the walls of a much bigger structure fold out from the main vehicle, though adding a library, games room and art gallery is probably getting a bit over the top.
Of course it was funny but will you all be laughing when so much bad exposure towards caravaner's starts costing you all money. When people start believing all caravans should be taxed because they are a complete nuisance on the roads.
I was screaming either with laughter or fear when Jeremy's vehicle started swaying and people were passing him. It was hilarious and if he keeps people from taking up caravanning then i see that as a positive lol.
thought it was hillarious, as usual great stuff from the 3 of them. the only thing TG is missing IMO is a sexy female presenter. is it just me or is Vicki B-H getting cuter as she gets older
our household thought it was hilarious, we were in fits especially when jeremy was being overtaken by the lorry.
if you want a serious car programme, watch 5th gear, if you can't stand top gear and you know it's going to upset you there are hundreds of other channels to chose from. as for it being a waste of money it is for me one of the most entertaining shows one beeb1 at the mo, much better value for money than the football and a lot cheaper
Richard Hammond has ceased to appear natural on the programme now. He is always posing and preening for the camera and tossing his hair, a total and utter turn off.
I used to like the programme but not any more. I want to learn about real cars for real people, not super cars for millionaires.

Ali
Watch 5 gear then..... and regarding the high value cars, its the only time the likes of us get to see a high performance car. So I intentionally watch it for that reason.

I thought it was brilliant, and what it showed me was a caravan is much better that a motorhome. As yu can leave the van behind and take the car. As with the MH you take you house to tesco...lol
I would be considerably more worried if Panorama or the like decided to run a "documentary" on caravans and their negative impact on the countryside/economy/life in general rather than three grown up adolescents being prats and entertaining people. As it is I view TG as entertaining rubbish.
And don't get me started on that waste of time known as soaps and their inherent ridiculously high death rate.
There is always the off button.
Can I send the BBC a copy of last years licence and then say I only watch repeats?

Fortunately such a programme will never be made - imagine the impact on Cornwall's tourist industry if they closed all the caravan sites!!
Let's face it, it's 'trendy' to take the mick out of caravans and camping in general. It's perpetuated by programmes like 'Top Gear' (altho I'm a fan), the majority of people have probably never been in a queue behind a caravan in their driving lives but find it amusing to say so among their mates.
That said the episode was very funny but I did wonder what would have happened if JC's Citroen 'mobile flat' had toppled over into oncoming traffic on that A road and caused a pile-up.
On a separate note where did he get that (seemingly pristine) Citroen CX from?, I thought they had all gone to the great onion-field in the sky by now.
