Possibly even less than 2 days!   We find we generally need to empty every 36 hours if not using other facilities.

I bought some of that One Chem and have used it twice. We can't stand the smell!

It is offensive. Had to travel 10 miles to get some of the old stuff we used to use and the bottle has been despatched to the bin.

I certainly won't be buying anymore and would certainly think this dreadful stuff is the cause of the smell. Our loo has never smelt before we used it.

I used some bleach to remove the smell and everything is now back to normal.

hi viggo, try doing as i say. if you get bacteria in the tank part it starts working the minute you dump in there. remember i,m not complaining about smell or having difficulty emptying. i do see what you mean about weight but then i wouldnt wash it out. keep bacteria working. its how a sewage plant works. as for in your house you also tip lots and lots of water down the drain to help dilute the bleach . in a van we dont use as much. believe me try a splash of vinegar its cheap and it works. i think far better than the chemicals. i never wash mine out even leave it in the van all summer gets lots of good bacteria then. . nothing ventured nothing gained.you could save a bit of cash as well. cheers alan.

Well I left the bleach in overnight (well watered down) and its a lot better (although not perfect!) I think I will go down the Zoflora route next (always worked in my luggable loo in my camping days) I dont want to waste all that one chem I have so next trip I will use it and empty the loo every day.

There is no way I would leave anything in it Im afraid - once when I used the luggeable loo I forgot to empty it in the morning and went out all day (very hot and sunny) and when we got back it was stinking (and that was no 1's only) - perhaps I should just treat the cassette loo like a luggable loo and just use Zoflora in it and put some in the rinsing tank and just wash it out every day...........

Don't forget Fenwicks Top and Tail. Seems to work fine ! I quite like the smell. And no black bits. And Halfords stock it.

Oops repeating myself, sorry.

I probably break all the cleaning rules by filling it with warm water and popping a biological washing liquid pillow thingy in it, when we come back from our adventures. I just leave it to soak for an hour or so, then rinse well. I don't see why this would hurt it because the toilet fluid is enzymes and so is the washing pillow thingy. I then rub the rubber with a bit of olive oil. This method certainly cleans it and it doesn't honk.

The cassette is just like a big plastic butty box. I sometimes think manufacturers con us with their special products.

We brought some of the One-Chem at B'ham last year only used it twice, awful smell, gone back to Thetford Blue, all OK now,

Also we clean the cassette with warm soapy water after every trip then rinse thoroughly and leave to dry, then a little baby oil on the lip seal, works for us

I'm not to impressed with the Thetford toilet fluid. I would recommend Elsan. Never had any smells since we started usign it and never had a reocurrense of the "black bits" that we had with the Thetford pink.

There's no denying that Thetford make a good toilet, but their chemicals are not the best.

Quite agree. We use the monster twin pack of pink flush and blue which costs about £15.00 and it more than does the job.

Elsan have been making toilet fluids for longer than anyone else and IMHO there's none better.

OneChem works fine for me. It smells of a mixture of bubblegum and almonds. Not harsh, not nasty, and (after spending the last four days in a festival field with few amenities) I can testify it does the job.

 sounds delicous !

We only use stuff that's green - not got a scooby what it's called, but you get blue as well which apparently is full of pretty  nasty chemicals. As no dumping is allowed in ours we reckon the green one will be sufficient.

I'd take my chances of a whiff or 2 before risking damaging the seals though... could be a lot smellier if the seals perish.  But I do like the sound of the almonds & bubblegum !
