Hi to all that have kindly replied to my post.

We are really  keen to get caravanning with them. They do love being out and about and when researching various sites there doesn't seem to be a problem with having 3 of them.

Thanks again

Hilary

I take my two an black lab and a old cavvie spaniel, they absolutley love it, only ever found one site that said one dog only, but I rang them and they said to bring both as I said they were good and one was old but both well behaved so they let both cone now, the site owner even knows their names now lol, the lab didn't sleep in the van he has the choice but I think he gets uncomfy and hot and prefers to spread out in the awning on his bed , the spaniel ,well awning is a rude word to her she sleeps and lives inside the van, just pops out to do her business. It's great taking the dogs it makes the experience nicer. And most caravans on site have at least one dog :)

hils1 I've come across at least one campsite that specified 2 dogs maximum, can't remember which one as we only had 2 dogs then (and now) but I do believe most take more.

When we first camped with the dogs we were concerned about them causing a nuisance barking, but they are both very quiet - even when you get the odd inconsiderate  human making a din ! I'm sure you won't find any problems as you sound like a sensible considerate person - have fun with your dogs

We have three dogs and have always taken them away with us in the caravan, it is so much easier than trying to find a holiday cottage that will accept three dogs.

I'm sure your dogs will love it, ours do!

Sara.

We've found a lot of sites that only accept 2 dogs and we have 4, it's one of the reasons we joined the CC and C&CC as they dont have a limit or charge for them, I've seen some sites wanting £4.95 per night per dog! They may as well say no dogs.

However about an hour ago I emailed a site that said they only accept 2 and explained that ours are good & obedience trained etc & they have said it's fine to take them along.

It's just a case of mutual respect, keep them quiet, on lead & clean up and people don't mind them but let them bark & run riot & you'll ruin it for everyone, the vast majority of people on sites are like minded whether they have pets, kids or neither, all we want is a good relaxing holiday & so are very mindful of what their dogs or offspring are up to, yes you get the odd one who seem oblivious to the chaos they cause but they're thankfully few & far between.

have a fab time with your pooches.

'Most campers do have dogs.  Whether it's because they have taken up camping so that they can take their dogs with them or whether they decide to get a dog because they are so accepted on sites'

ashwellgirl; Are you really saying that if you dont have a dog you are persona non grata on sites???  Why would anyone get a dog just to be accepted.  We dont have adog and we always feel very welcome whererever we go.

We have been camping and caravaning with dogs for as long as we can remember, had up to 7 dogs at one time. We have had no problems so long as the campsite accepts dogs. Devon and cormwall have been the hardest to find sites that accept more than 2 dogs. Never leave your dogs on site unattended even for a short time. Think about joining a dog training club that specialises in Dog Agility, Kids and dogs enjoy it on the whole and when trained they can enter competitions. Clubs run events that may be of 1 day to 5 day duration allowing you to enjoy your caravan and gives you a purpose. Punch in 'Dog Agility' in google to find out clubs in your area.

I believe you've read ashwellgirls post completly wrong. I read it to say people may get a dog when they see how much dogs are accepted not that people are accepted more if they have a dog.

Me too Jackie. Think it's a misunderstanding.

oops i didn't realise commenting on a post would offend someone so much

I can clarify that i did mean that dogs are so accepted on sites and NOT that people without dogs aren't.

At least dogs don't ride bikes across your pitch and over your porch awning guy ropes , unless they are circus dogs ;)

Me and my better half always take our dog with us except for one trip a year and that is on our wedding anniversary, 45 years this sept.

Its not the same going places and leaving Charlie the lab with our daughter,

I am sure he doesnt miss us as he is always a bit fatter when we collect him and he likes staying with his canine cousin, Max the Multi Mix Mut, but he always runs to us when we go to pick him up unless there is a biscuit or some other temptation that has his attention, all the sites we have taken him have been great and comments made about his good manners, however a dog is never to blaim for anything, it is the owner,

Charlie is great with the grandkids who sometimes hug him till he is wheezing but I would never leave any child alone with any dog no matter hove docile they are.

I just thought I would put my thoughts into words.

Regards to all. George

We have camped and caravanned for over 40 years and have never been away yet without a dog. For 14 years of that we were Managers for the C&CC and apart from one or two irresponsible owners that do not pick up and refuse to keep their dog on a lead one problem was when the dogs were left in the van alone. They might be extremely well behaved while the owner is with them but on their own they can bark and howl. Of course when the owners return, they stop and unless someone complains they will never know. If you have a dog on holiday then you have to arrange your time to include them otherwise perhaps kennels might be the best option.

Read this post with interest as I have just returned from a lovely campsite we have used before and half way through our holiday, someone turned up with 6 yappy little dogs in a pitch adjacent to ours.

Now I like dogs, I really do, but when one of thiese little darlings started yapping, they all chipped in, and the noise was very annoying at times.  It was like being in the middle of Crufts as they would often start all the adjacent animals barking too.

After the above experience, I can appreciate why some campsites limit the number of dogs per caravan.   2 or 3 would seem to me to be reasonable, as long as the owners keep them on a lead AT ALL TIMES, clean up after them and don't leave them in the caravan barking their heads off for hours on end.

We have 2 pugs and take them everywhere, why have a dog if you going to leave it  in a kennel while you go on holiday.  Both of ours have passports and we went to France,Belgium, Germany and Luxemberg in our Motorhome in April, and they had a lovely time.  We use a stake while on site so they cannot wander off and annoy anyone, and always on a lead when out walking. We are off to Cornwall this week and as soon as we start packing up "Mobi" they are rearing to go.
