If you have an aerial and there is a freeview signal in the area you will get freeview. Did you know that in each different place you will have to retune/re-search for programmes? My parents didn't, and wondered why they always had 'no signal' showing on their tv. They had tuned it at home, not realising it would need to be retuned each time they went somewhere new.
I use one of these and it does the job very well, I just throw it onto the roof and point it in roughly the right direction!

Hopefully Brian, that would solve alot of problems, when we stay at Naburn lock near York the freeview picture is fantastic but when we went to Ripley near Harrogate we couldn't get a picture at all.
sky boxes need cards to work they can be purchased from sky for a one off fee gives freesat service anybody that has sky at home only need to buy a dish and tripod etc and simply take box with you obviously sky+ wont work unless you use a twin lnb ,we use this method every time to golden rule is bigger dish easier setup and reception from trees etc .maplins do dishes at reasonable prices in my opinion suitcase satelites are a waste of time and money regs mick
When you do a campsite search, then look at the reviews page, over on the right hand side, under the save to virtual brochure *Heart*, you can check the digital TV coverage for that area.
We have the "aerial on a pole" as the van aeriel is one of the useless ones! However it is hit and miss in some areas which doesnt bother me at all, just as happy with a good book, but drives OH into a lather! I think satellite might be the way to go, we've never really looked into it as we dont have sky at home (cable instead).
We treated ourselves to a small flatscreen tv for the van earlier this year, I have to say I think we had better reception with our pole and old portable we used to take. Progress eh.

Hi, we were having the same problem especially in wales, till a friend said get a signal booster from wilkos jobs done signal great.
We have a signal booster in the caravan - it came with it and we rarely have any difficulty getting a good picture be it analogue or digital. I'm convinced that a lot of problems with the aerials are incorrect positioning and tuning. Once you have found out where the stongest signal is coming from and pointed your aerial in that direction (using the aforementioned web site and a compass ), then the TV input must be selected as either Digital or Analogue and then Auto Tune must be selected - every time !!!!!
We have a signal booster in our caravan too but our aeriel is fixed and can't be moved ( or we can't find how!!, we have a Coachman Kimberley 380/2) we do retune our tv in at every site we go to, sometimes its great but other times not.
hi i use a sky dish with sky box installed in the caravan, we just take the sky card from home, i can set up the picture in 5 mins great picture all the time.
