Mayday everytime.

Had to call them out last month to change a wheel and they arrived in 25 minutes.

My membership costs me just over £80.00 a year and I get roadside assistance, recovery and home start. On average I think this is about £60.00 less than the AA and RAC for the same level of cover.

The only difference I can see is that the AA and RAC cover YOU whereas Mayday cover the vehicle.

Vic, you can also get personal cover with Mayday.  Both my wife and I are covered as a driver or a passenger in any vehicle, but it means the premium is slightly higher.  This actually happened when my son broke down in his car about a month ago, with me as passenger.  He had no roadside/recovery insurance, so I rang Mayday and the truck came, loaded the car and took us back to his house under my membership.

Thanks to everyone for your responses which have been most helpful and informative.  I think that the decision is now made!  Will be ringing to arrange cover by Mayday next week.  Thanks again.

I work on the motorways in the UK and I would say for overall reliabilty RAC are the most consistant of AA, RAC, GF. Generally quicker response (not always), less errors with location taking (at call centre) but patrol personel are all pretty good with all roadside recovery, just the odd cowboys but they are always contracted local garages not patrolmen.

Have look here for big savings:

http://www.quidco.com/insurance-finance/insurance/breakdown/

I used Quidco to get my home insurance through Esure last year, they were the cheapest premium and then I got £80 cashback (it took 3 months for my account to get credited but £80 is £80, sorry actually it was £75 because they take a one off £5 fee off your first cashback as a joining fee, you don't have to pay the £5 fee up front to join)
