OK, lets set the record straight - no we haven't talked to our neighbours.
All was ok with neighbours until 4 years when they applied to extend their house (they wanted to build on the party wall with gutters etc hanging over into our garden. The extension also projects 4.5m, which breaches planning "guidelines") so we objected. The council did not do what it says on the website and planning was passed - very long story. Now we live with a worse permanent eye sore than the caravan everyday. Council eventually gave us a written apology.
When extension was being built they kept coming into the garden, without telling us (know we have to all them reasonable access). So we put up a video camera just in case of any damage. They reported us to the Police and accused us of being pedos! Police came round and took no action, we were videoing our own back garden afterall.
3 years later Police ask us if we have any video cameras, as we run our own business from home and have some very expensive cars (for business use only - otherwise have a 10 yr old Kia Carens and a 8 yr old Micra!) and there was a spate of windows being smashed - ours being one of them. No, couldn't be bothered with the agro of being accused of being pedos.
Since the extension/video accusations they complain about every little job on the house that we do, including putting up a washing line in the garden! Believe me, they've been round lots and I assure you that we make very litte noise. I used to tell hubby to knock off any jobs he was doing at 7.30. Hubby is now just fed up with them.
2 weeks ago their dog chewed a hole about 6' x 8" in the fence, so hubby went and asked them when they intended to replace the fence panel as we have rabbits and didn't want the dog getting in the garden and at the rabbits. 2 weeks later and the fence still hasn't been fixed, although they have "bodged" some wood onto it on their side.
In spite, they knocked all my plants over that were attached to the fence (on our side), including those that were tied to the fence with plastic wheel trim ties.
They then went on holiday for 10 days leaving their dog home alone for the 2nd time this year. Really nice people.
I thought the fact that they were lazy and couldn't be bothered to bring their bins in from the front of the house was bad enough but now we have an ugly dirty caravan in the front.
We work 6/7 days a week and so are very rarely around. We have 2 young children. We can do without the agro.
I have a very low opinion of my neighbours and yes I think most of the things they do they are doing just to really p**s us off and yes it's working!
Just thought I'd ask for some advice re the caravan, but hey whilst we don't get on with our neighbours (and we get on with everyone else, whereas these neighbours don't talk to anyone - complete wierdos), you lot can't seem to "get on" on here.
But as in most things it seems that the low life in this world can get away by sticking 2 fingers up at the rest of society.
Thank you to those who have offered some advice (even if it's not in our favour) and to caravancaz for making us laugh. To brianconwy, some people just cannot be reasonned with and just wanted to know whether we had any rights before having 2 fingers stuck up at us. Perhaps you could live here for a couple of months and see how it would effect you (and not just the caravan).
Personally, I have no issues with caravans and spent many happy holidays with my parents, firstly camping, then a trailer tent, then tourer before my parents took the cushy decison to buy a static. I'd just rather the caravan was on their driveway then I didn't have to look at it.
Off to bed now as we have a 10 hour work day ahead of us tomorrow. At least it'll be almost dark by the time we get home and then we can shut the curtains!
